V70 T5 Driver Seat

What's wrong with this picture? Whenever I try to sit down I end up catching my hip on the metal hinge assembly and it does hurt a bit. The passenger side is just fine, and the hinge is hidden behind the padding at the bottom of the seat bolsters. The driver side seat seems to be lifted slightly (you can also see the gap between the seat bottom and the backrest). Is there a way to fix this? All power seat functions seem to work properly, it's just that alignment of the seat back is about 0.5" too high and about 0.5" too far back.

Thanks for your help.

It looks like The WHIPS system has been activated.  There is a repair kit for this that requires replacing the parts that break in the seat back joint.

Have you been in a wreck?  Some trama to the seatback?

I recently purchased the auto used, and had the vehicle inspected. The mechanic stated that it was pretty clean, and I also did a carfax check on the VIN and it came up clean eventhough recent or unreported collisions can get passed their system quite easily.

Should I bring the vehicle to a dealer? Estimated costs for the repair?

Thanks Rich. I wish I was in Virginia so I could bring the car to you or your place of business.

Either that or, excuse my french, the previous owner was on the plus side weight wise. Dont laugh, my brother blew the fuse on the power seats when he drove my R. The motors were pulling too much current when they tried to move his big asss.

I brought it into the dealer this morning, and the technician told me that he couldn't find any signs of rearend damage/repair on the vehicle. I asked him if a larger sized person can cause this type of damage by sitting down and leaning back on the seat quickly (transferring a lot of weight) and he told me that it was unlikely but that anything was possible.

I was told to bring the car back next week when they had time to work on it. I was charged a $98 inspection fee that concluded that the WHIPS restraint system was activated and that a repair was necessary--they said that they could not work on the car without the inspection (it took the technician all but 30 seconds to make his conclusion).

Rich, I have changed the seat back cables on both of the front seats on my 850T. Would the repair the WHIPS system entail a similar type of procedure. I realized that cutting thru the hog clips and peeling the seat cover was the hardest part on the 850T.

BenW, I'm starting to think that you might be right about this.. it must have been one large person, though.

I've done enough of these (maybe 4 or 5) to say that It is a PITA. All the parts that come in the kit are "really" not needed. You need the bushings the arm that gets bent, but the spring is not really needed. Whats hard is you knock out pins then you have to work the broken/bent arm out and then you have to work the new one in and get everything lined up for the new pins. Not a whole lot of fun. As I recall you don't need to do the hog ring thing. I think you can work around that, but you do want to take the seat out of the car. I did one side then the other.

I'll say this about the one hour diagnostic fee for your problem, that would never happen at our dealer, that wasn't very nice of them, and if they were looking for return business thats a heck of a way to get it. Sorry about your rip off.
