Zappo
I ride an unknown late 80's frame of Italian origin, with an 8-spd Dura-ace drivetrain, ultegra brakes, and open pro's. Never raced, but done a few training sessions with local guys around here, and gotten royally rocked. ←Didn't know you rode. There are a lot of racers in Bellingham. ontheheel
i officially really like road riding....i hadn't ridden a road bike since i was in elementary school. it is pretty awesome, and i always thought i would hate it because you cant jump off of stuff and take lots of abuse. i didn't realize how fast you can go and how quickly distance goes by. and i actually kinda like the biopace...it does feel natural, and i dont feel like there is a dead spot in my pedaling(there is because i suck and i just have regular pedals). ontheheel
why clipless and not clip? the reason i ask is i've got a pair of richtey clip pedals lying around...i just don't have shoes.
orange850t
Biopace explanation:"The Biopace rings maximize ratio near the vertical, minimizes ratio at the horizontal. This means more torque at the horizontal and less at the vertical relative round rings.Biopace acclerates the cranks more at the horizontal giving you more angular momentum to flywheel past the dead spot. The reduced ratio proximate the max force horizontal pedal position is allegedly easier on the knees. "A cyclist, kinda

Clip pedals have the strap. Clipless lock to the pedals lock the shoe to the pedal with a cleat. They take a little getting used to to remember to twist your foot to get out of them. I don't know anyone who hasn't fallen at least once after coming to a stop after switching to them. Most people start out with the SPD type, at least for road bikes. They are fairly cheap (cost) and you don't have to twist too far to get out of them.I use Speedplay X2 pedals.

The name is misleading because you clip in, they are just called clipless because the ones with a strap are called clip pedals.
