2p3capri
Hi all,Its a darn shame I only ever get to post when theres something WRONG with my swede...Yesterday as I was driving back from the bank I had the cruise control on set to about 60MPh, while cruiseing I noticed an intermittant "hiccup" if you will, a slight drop in overall power of the motor for maybe a split second. Sorrta like the same feeling you get when you drive into a windgust I guess would be the way to describe it. It did the same thing off the cruise control as well, but only seemed to do so when cruiseing at that speed.Well today I pulled codes, and along with my EVAP code (Ive had that code since I bought the car in june) I had Code 143 : Front Knock Sensor signal absent or faultyNow comeing from my Ford 2.3Turbo background I know that in most EFI systems, the knock sensor is just a pizeo element set to resonate at a given frequency (that frequency being that of the sound of spark knock) And when this occurs the computer backs off the timeing advance.I imagine this is how the volvo system works as well, but I am no expert when it comes to these european cars. My question is, does the volvo system work in the same way, and if so would this faulty connection/sensor cause the problem I am experencing? My experence has been that knock sensors rarely cause problems like this, but only seem to effect the overall running of the motor, not an intermittant problem. What would be the recomended course of action for fixing this problem? I would imagine that simply discconecting it would not be a solution for the Swede? (this happens to be a soultion on my ford's) Thanks for any insight into this issue.Kevin

Bay13
The repair for the 143 knock sensor codes is to install the knock sensor kit. It contains two new knock sensors, a wiring harness change, and new pins for the connectors. You have to pull the intake manifold to do the repair. With the intake manifold off you might want to consider a new PCV box and hoses while you are in there.
2p3capri
Okay understood, But in your opinion would this knock sensor problem cause the issue i experenced yesterday? Or do I have another issue to look into?
Bay13
What you describe sounds like a misfire. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires. All depending on age. I've even heard of people with the hiccup problem fixing it with a new fuel pump.
2p3capri
Intresting...All ignition parts were replaced about 1000 miles ago with OEM parts so i doubt they are to fault. This car is beginning to bleed me dry, its out to get me
Bay13
Are you running high test? I don't remember the particulars on the fuel pump replacements, maybe others who have more active brain cells will chime in.
prasamin
when my fuel pump was acting up, i would never get hiccups while cruising...i experienced loss of power during acceleration, and finally my car just wouldn't start cuz the fp was shot....the hiccup, like Rich says, sounds like a misfire....check your plug gaps, and if you have plat plugs try copper if you're HPT.
