I have this code that I can not find a meaning for! (P1081 see service manual )

IT has not yet caused my CEL To come on. maybe it will not.

I just replaced a rear O2 sensor and Am trying to get through drive cycle. All is now met except the catalyst. I have tried many times to drive through this and it seems to not be clearing.

The only code is this P1081 See service manual? Anyone know what this could mean? Why did the Cel Remain out? Is this why my drive cycle is not completing?

99 v70

Genysis Scan tool.

Please help if you can.

That is an immobilizer code....as for the drive cycle you just have to hit it right. I would suggest starting with a stone cold engine and take it for a drive . There is a proper drive sequence but sometimes it's hard to hit. If you have all monitors up except that one like I said if you start out with a stone cold motor and take it for a say a nice normal 2 to 5 mile drive on open straight road at 55 to 60 it will probably bring your last monitor up. Now with that said .....WHY NOT JOIN V/S ;)

actually i am a member, just did not sign in that time or maybe could not remember my password.

The imobilizer code, how come I can not find that code anywere at all? Does it only have the one cause? I hear the immobilizer ring can get a little dusty and cause this. Thanks for the answer. you have been a great help.

I would clear it and see if it returns.....I take it you hit your drive cycle and all monitors are up? ;)

I found this wonderful site via Google search for this code. I have just purchased a Volvo 1999 V70. I had hired a Mobile tech to analize the car for problems and the P1081 code came up. The deal couldn't help unless i bring the car in. Immobiler = Security??? The mobile mechanic said it was an error code in Powertrain. What if anything significant coyuld be the problem? SHould I keep the car? THX

I recently ran into the P1081 code on my '99 V70. I had cleared a code with an OBD II scanner after replacing the O2 sensor, and was trying to reset/monitor the I/M codes. I noticed that if I started the car with the Actron code reader attached, the car would stall out. Then It wouldn't want to start. I've never had that kind of trouble before. New batt. Stopped starting the car with the scanner attached, and no more problems starting, and no more P1081. Just P0455, hoses are on order, purge valve and gas cap too (thanks VS and FCP groton).

As for trying to reset the drive cycle...quite a process. Got some ideas here and there, but I ended up purchasing the $6 pamphlet from Volvo. Very different instructions from the ones given another volvo website which I found later:

Drive cycle in the $6 pamphlet says car needs to be warmed up a little but not too much before the test, or it won't go through the full battery of tests. The cycle they recommend with minor improvements is:

1) 6 minutes stop and go city driving.

2) 1.5 minutes stopped safely by the side of the road.

3) 6 minutes stop and go city driving.

4) 2.5 minutes stopped safely by the side of the road.

5) 5.5 minutes at ~50mph.

6) 2.5 minutes stopped safely by the side of the road.

7) 5.5 minutes at ~50mph.

8) 2.5 minutes cursing by the side of the road because your codes I/M flags aren't all ready.

9) Accellerate to ~2000rpm and then stop 4 times.

10) Have a beer, let your car and temper cool down, and then assuming you are both ready, try it one more time and be ready for the CEL.
