We just picked our up with me planning on installing myself. After reading the installation instructions I thought I better see if anyone on volvospeed has done this before to get some pre-install advice.Several things we are wondering about:1. First step notes that we should wait at least 5 minutes prior to disassembling the connectors or other electrical equipment. It then has us removing the battery cover and disconnecting the battery negative lead and moving or removing the battery to facilitate access. Why would we need to remove the battery?2. It provides directions on taking off the bumper? I didn't know I was going to have to take off the bumper - Maybe somebody knows of a way to do to this without removing the bumper. If not, it doesn't appear to be too difficult. Any suggestions would be welcomed.3. There appears to be 2 differents sets of directions for marking the cut-out on the bumper - one for chassis CH173000 and one for chassis 172999. How do you know which one you have? The instructions came with a template, but it only mentions using the template with the chassis CH172999. Also, any tips on cutting. - 4. Clean away any underseal/dirt from the surfaces between the tow hitch and the body? - What should we use to clean the underseal? - What is this compound anyway? After we install it talks about undersealing the car again. Is this compound available at auto supply stores or should I wait for the next service at the dealer and have them apply?5. Rivots - We live an hour away from the dealer - Are the rivots on the Volvo something that is readily available at other establishments?Thanks for your help! dtlayman Posted September 6, 2005 Author Report Share Posted September 6, 2005 We got the hitch on successfully.We went ahead and took the bumper off - it wasn't that bad.We purchased a rivet tool, but I think the tool we purchased may accept different sizes.
