tallahasseegreys
Can someone please post a pic of the "graduated" end of the oil dipstick from an 850? My wife drove from Tallahassee, FL to Charleston SC. The oil was perfect when she left. my FIL said he noticed oil spots on his driveway so he checked the oil. He added 2 quarts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy crap. I just hope he isn't reading the dipstick correctly. Seems to me that volvo dips are a bit different than most other cars. I don't know how one could "misread" it, but I'm freaked out that my 850 used 2 quarts of oil in 400 miles. It has never used oil before.Someone please post a pic of the oil dipstick so I can email it to them & make sure they're seeing what they think they're seeing. Thanks ya'll.Mike
Chopper
The oil level will measure different if the car is warm and has just been driven, or cold. Generally it's pretty accurate if it is checked at least 15 minutes after the car is turned off.If it lost 2 quarts, it must just be gushing oil. tenn850
Yes, it seems like it is using some oil, but it might not be that much. Do what Chopper said. To read the stick on the Volvo try it several times after the engine is off 15 mn and drive and try again. Sometimes the oil stays on top of the engine and does not drain all in the pan. From the lower mark to upper mark I think you need 1.5 qrt. The engine takes close to 6 qrts, (850 N.A.) not to be overfilled.Do engine compression test and leak down at dealer to tell you how healthy your engine is.
