Throttle Body Cleaning

Can someone do a quick writeup/description of how to get the throttle body off a '99+ Turbo? I know how to clean it with all the solvent warnings applied to the ETS unit, but the location makes getting the actual throttle body off tricky if not impossible.

Is there any order to, or danger in unplugging the ETS?

Remove battery first for better access?

Bolt removal? In which order?

Tips/Tricks?

Any help with this is appreciated, thanks.

It's like a circular reference since all the posts don't go into detail and the write-up was seemingly never delivered.

Edit: I looked because I need this, too!

the '98 and older cars are really easy to clean, just get a new TB gasket. Pull it off, clean it with some gum out and replace it. The '99+ is much more involved and a PITA.

Yeah, agreed, this is kind of the whole point. '99+ turbo is a whole different thing. I've read all VS topics -- even started some of them, no one is chiming in on this.

Honestly I'm starting to suspect that VS is afraid of liability -- with all the issues surrounding the ETS/ETM I'm not surprised. I'd still like to hear if this is whats going on or not and wouldn't hold it against them if this is the case.

There is not a single internet article on the subject and MANY people looking for some help cleaning the '99+ turbo TBs. And for the record, VADIS doesn't tell you how to get it off either and my dealer wants $550 to clean it when it might fail anyway. Thats NOT going to happen.

it's not that VS doesn't want to be liable (you signed the waiver when you became a member) just that no one really likes the 99+ cars because of the new design

it was a crappy design and no one wants to screw it up any more than it is

You couldn't be anymore wrong. Rich is a busy man, he's taken the pics, just needs to do the writeup.
