Abs Light And How I Got Rid Of It (knock On The Wood)

I have reported a while back that I began to get ABS light around the same time that the engine on our 98 V70 n/a w/ 87k was running rich and hot (latter problem was subsequently remedied by replacing the thermostat and ECT sensor). Unfortunately, the ABS light intermittently comes back, and began to suspect the controller and was thinking of sending the unit to Vic Rocha for repair. Vic's site indicated to make sure that the controller is the issue before sending the unit, so I began to do a couple of things, like making sure that all ABS related electrical connections are snug, and whenever I can, put dielectric grease on connections. When it was the speed sensors turn to be checked/cleaned, I realized that after all these years of no cleaning/maintenance on those parts, the craps accumulation piled-up big time (I'm not so sure if the dealer tech who did my rotors at 40k evem bothered to clean those parts since I believe they would be exposed once the rotors are out).

So I cleaned the four of them, and now, no more ABS light.

If anybody is beginning to be annoyed with this issue, may I suggest cleaning the speed sensors on all four first, even if this would not solve the issue, it's worth your effort. In fact, even if you do not have any ABS light issue at all and is not aware that any cleaning/maintenance was done for the said parts, I would suggest including this simple task the next time you do your tire rotation.

I hope this helps some folks out there.
