flippu10
Hello everyone,I finally took my S60 to the dealer yesterday. The symptoms - surging and sputtering at around 45 and faster - got worse and the indicator light flashed "performance reduced". The dealer diagnosed it and told me I need the following: total (1850.00)replace throttle bodyclean vacuum nipplereplace pedal position sensorsoftware upgrade The diagnostic codes are: ECM-130A air leakage intake, ECM-903F throttle unit, internal fault - signal missing.Does this make sense? Is this the right fix for these codes? What about the price? Any advice would be much appreciated. Also, I tried looking for the throttle body and can't seem to locate it in the engine bay. Can someone point me to where it is on an S60 2.4T.
StickThatClutch
Well. I got a similar repair for a listed price of $768 (paid by warranty company though). Generally, the going rate around this board seems to be in the ~$1100 range. I'm not sure that any of us have the pedal position sensor replaced though? The throttle body is most like the problem though.
starfish
Replace throttle body (aka Electronic Throttle Module or ETM)... sure it has an internal fault and is the main source of your problem!Clean vacuum nipple... If the engine oil is extremely filthy and the engine shows alot of neglect okay maybe, otherwise it might be unnecessary. Replace pedal position sensor... This is for an ABS problem and will not cause the engine to run rough or sputter.Software upgrade... Necesary for ETM to have a software reload when it is replaced with a new part. If it is for an ECM or other module, its probably not necessary but might add to overall driveability improvement.Ask for a breakdown on parts and labor for each repair item. The ETM is located under the intake manifold and looks like a silver box with a 2 1/2" black pipe connected to it. flippu10
Thanks a lot for the info, Starfish. I really appreciate that. That's great. Sometimes, I just don't trust the repairs made by the dealer. Not sure if it's necessary or not or if it's even related to the problem.Have you ever replaced an ETM on this car. I did see that silver box under the intake manifold. It looks like the intake manifold will have to come out in order to replace it. Is that right? This means the fuel injectors will have to come out too. I'll appreciate any pointers. I'll probably do it myself.Another thing, I was looking for a place to get the throttle body and could not find one. The parts place I buy from don't have any listings. Do you have a parts place that you can recommend. Thanks in advance.
Steely
flippu 10,The Throttle Body is a component of the infamous Electronic Control Module (aka ETM). You can remove the ECM and clean the throttlr body (seehere). Replacing the ECM will require a download from your dealer or an indy with VIDA. Its the ETS that infamous, not the ECM.Please don't replace your ECM if you have ETS issues. All these acronyms are confusing. The ECM is your MAIN computer not your electronic throttle body rig (ETB/ETS whatever).
flippu10
Thanks, all. That's a very good clarification. I kinda assumed it was the ETS/ETM that needed replacing instead of the ECM.This ECM issue is really a big deal.. After reading a lot of boards and forum, I had no idea. I'll just keep an eye out for the end result.
flippu10
Has anybody actually corrected this problem by cleaning the TB. I just did it about a week and a half ago. It seems to have corrected it until yesterday when it started manifesting the same problems. I also got the same warning that says "Performance Reduced". Do I have to replace the throttle body? I was hoping the cleaning would have fixed it. I didn't want to shell out the $550.00.

And if you're not careful cleaning can hurt. $550? Where do you live? I want to drive down and get one.
flippu10
This is a price I got from a dealer in the Chicago suburbs. I might have to pay extra for the software download - $125. I'll wait a while and see if it gets worse.
slo240
those throtle bodies are bad for crapping out. i wrench at a volvo dealer and we have stacks of old ETM's in and under our tool boxes. cleaning it wont do you a bit of good, your gonna have to go to a dealer. i believe that is a dealer only item plus you have to get the software download. i hope this helps some.
