California/west Coast Volvo Track Day

NUFAN

Recommended Posts

This is a pretty special event as Thunderhill Raceway has extended the VCOA a special offer for this December track session, we normally run in late May early June, which means that the cost this time is almost half the normal price to run at Thunderhill. This will provide a great opportunity to run your car on a fast paced closed road course.

All the information for signing up is below from Lee Cordner (VCOA Pres.), hope to see some of you guys out there.

Track Day - Friday December 9.

I got an amazing response for a December Track Day. Some of you even expressed a PREFERENCE for rainy conditions. Good Golly.

So here is the deal. I reserved Friday December 9th for us at Thunderhill. I didn’t do any historical research on how many rainy vs. clear December 9ths there have been over the past 10 years or anything like that. I’m sure it is on the web somewhere, so if you’d like to look it up and enlighten us….

For those of you considering your first track day, there is no need to be uneasy. We’ll have instructors available and will start you with a group of beginners until you are comfortable. There is no racing, just a chance to drive your car fast in controlled, safe conditions. For those of you doing your zillionth track day, we are considering utilizing the back (fast) side of the track for the advanced group. Check it out at http://www.thunderhill.com

Here is what the deal looks like. (approximate only)

Track Rental $1000 – (usually $5000 in the summer months)

Insurance $1200

Ambulance $800 - here is one where we hope we pay for nothing.

Misc. $1400 – Corner workers, tower guy, cone set up, PA system, facilities charges

Lunch $600

Total $5000

Here is what I am thinking on pricing. $100 for VCOA members, $125 for non members. Those prices will be good until November 1. After November 1, prices go to $125 for members, $150 for non members. You can sign up anytime. Procrastinate as long as you want. It is your money. You can invite friends, even relatives. We’ll take the first 50 who pony up, then cut off registration so the run groups are small enough for you to enjoy some clear track.

If you want to get in on this deal, here is how: Send a check made out to NBVCOA to Lee Cordner, 313 Point San Pedro Rd. San Rafael, CA 94901

I’ll need to know what car you’ll be driving, your experience level and the driving group you prefer. Your group preference should reflect YOUR experience, not your car’s potential. Here are your choices

Group 1 – Least experienced group – Learning the basics

Group 2 – Some experience, know the line and capable of driving quick laps

Group 3 – Experienced, fast drivers

This probably doesn’t need to be said, but if you pay, then change your mind for any reason, even if it raining cats and dogs, I probably can’t give your money back. You can try to re-sell your spot, but once I sign the contract I’m on the hook for the $$$. Thunderhill doesn’t cut me any slack, so I can’t cut you any.

No, for insurance purposes it is not allowed. This is considered more of a drivers education event for insurance reasons. If you want to be timed though just have somebody along pit row do it with a stop watch.

Count me in. I will take out weight to make the vehicle lighter. Try out the traction on the rear whell drive 201 hp inline six 960 vagon. See you all at the races.

Hell of a deal! Im in... I might make that a complete weekend as I was already planning on going monday w/ a miata group... The VCOA is byfar the cheapest deal i've seen. Full course? Probably might drag along some Davis Motorsports guys...

as for timing equipment... really? I thought you could provide you own hot lap timer? Maybe it was just the group I did it w/ another time allowed them... But get back to the ye or nay on those.

Michael/Lee, anyword on if we're definatly going to use the full course? That might be the make it or break it for me since there's a miata group a couple days later doing the full corse... dunno if I could afford both as of yet.

Justin,

Shoot Lee and email and see what he says, he's handling the organizing for this event.
