94 850 Turbo Vs. 2006 Cobalt Ss

So, my housemate bought a new Cobalt SS since his Z24 died at 100k (miles), which i initally find perplexing since it's one American stuff box into it's newer, less tested brother.

That aside. I'm very happy for him. We are both now driving cars we love and along with another friend cruising in an A4 V6 we're making some of our other friends quite jealous on account of our automobile satisfaction.

So my buddy brings home this new car and i'm incredibly unimpressed. I don't like it at all, but he loves it and i don't want to rain on his parade so i'm supportive and howl when he punches it. On account of it's stance, and suspension and being a passenger i can't really tell if it's faster than how my car feels, i certainly expect it to school me.

HOWEVER, when i got my car i lined up against my friend who drives an Integra (i also had a vaccuum leak at the time). I'd have thought with turbo lag he'd at least get the early start but he didn't have much on me and when my turbo got in the game it was game over. Now, when my friend got the new SS him and the Integra were fooling around off stop lights and stop signs and the few times he really punched it off the line he didn't pull on the Integra as much as i had thought - i kept that to myself.

Then the other day the SS driver comes home from work and without saying anything just comes in my room and says "my car would totally smoke yours", "now that it's a bit more broken in and i'm pushing the red line a bit harder it's so much faster". Now i didn't want to be a hotdog and tell him how crappy i think his car is cause he's still on this high, but i don't think he's going to have a lot on me - at least not worth $22,000.

We haven't raced yet becasue we want to end at high speed (close to 100mph) and it'll be hard to find some place we can do that side by side around here.

No matter what, my car at $5500 compared to his at $27,000 I'm a happy camper, and so are my passengers who don't need to see a chiropractor after riding in my car.

Anyhow, how badly am i going to loose? I know anything with a turn will put me out of contention, but in a straight line it will be interesting.

I'll keep you posted!

what are the specs on the SS?

and what are you running?

i'd say you have a fair chance if it's the SC version

2.0L 4cyl, supercharged, 5speed manual

205bhp

200ft-lbs torque

2806lbs.

215/45R 18 rubber

Supposedly does 0-60 in 6.4, 1/4 in 14.9 @ 95.5mph. The Autochannel did it in 6.1, 14.1seconds.

You know, it's still a piece of Chevy and will always be.

14.9 @ 95 huh ?

95 is a pretty high trap for a high 14 second car.. also its no secret to anyone that those babies put down 200 whp on the dyno's.. so once again GM underrated.. but in all honesty a chipped T5 should make short work of one..

a stock one on the other hand, well.. that's a different story.

no, 27,000 is the number - CAD though.

My car is still mechanically bone stock (Except a couple stickers and samco hoses), so i suspect i'll loose, and don't plan on chipping the car for some time (spring is for springs, struts, shocks, bars, etc.)

Oh well.. it'll be interesting all the same.

man, whoever says the cobalt is just another cavalier needs to go drive one.

at the shop we did a ton of htem, and it only took me one drive in one to totally drop that idea.

there is abolsutely no comparison, the cobalt is in EVERY way a better car than the cavalier, i would personally take a cobalt over some of hte japanese boxes, not on reliablity of course, but just on the way hte car feels...its solid, quiet, and pertty smooth :) fit finishis good...

still a cavalier, haha...i know i am being jerk, but if it eben feels like corvette and runs 11 seconds stock, and cost like a DX civic, i still won't buy it. there is something inside me, that doesn't let me buy american car.
