Sinbad
Hiya!I'm looking at trading the T4 in on a used XC70. The one I have my eye on is a 2003 with 60000km on the clock. What do I need to look out for? Are there any known issues with these ones? Thanks!Steven

Sinbad
Steven, you really lookin for the AWD?I do a lot of sailing and scuba diving... The latter involves beaches and forays up into the less civilised parts of Africa, where without an off-roader you have NO chance of getting through. My gf has a little 4x4, but it's LITTLE, and we load the thing to the roof with dive gear for a day trip. Longer trips will be impossible...Also, the beaches and less civilised parts of africa are a good 700km away, so I'd prefer not to get a more "basic" 4x4 as I like a bit of comfort on the long drive....Granted this thing won't give me a buzz like my T4 does... (oh it's so much fun to watch a boost gauge pegged at 1.2 bar!) but from a practicality and lifestyle point of view this makes so much more sense...Are there reasons I should be staying away from the AWD?Ta!S

BillAileo
I have an 03 XC70 with almost 50,000 on it. We love the car. I would recommend making sure the bevel gear isn't leaking and check for the smoothness of shifting between gears. If you get the car, and if the transmission fluid hasn't been flushed, I think with 60,000 on it, you ought to consider doing so even though it is claimed to be lifetime fluid. Sinbad
Well, have just attempted a test-drive to destruction The car makes strange whimpering noises during high speed turns, and while reversing up steep gravel inclines... Although that may actually have been the salesman in the back seat.MUCH RESPECT to my gf! That chick is hardcore! "Stop here! See if it'll go up that embankment there! *pointing at vertical wall*"Reversing up a really steep incline that I'd just inched my way down did a lot of convincing too...Car seems sound. No strange clonks, whines or rattles... but the aircon was battling a bit to cope with the 38 degree C ambient temperature... But I guess there's a lot of car to cool down.Got a decent insurance quote too - so just waiting to see what they'll offer me for my T4!
Sinbad
Hmmm. The VIN says it's an 02, not an 03.Any reason for me not to buy this now, assuming I can persuade the dealer to lower his price based on this?
