You Seem So Young Lol

Recommended Posts

Here in South Africa it's much the same as it is in the UK. Although your used cars are still cheaper than ours, our petrol is about 1/2 the price of yours.

It makes me jealous too to see the younger US guys able to buy the cars they can.

(no disrespect guys, but you're lucky that way!)

True but all things considered, the vast minority of 'young' drivers actually PAID for their cars.

BAH! I WANT YOUR CAR! I had a 1985 Merkur Xr4ti which is that platform broght to the states only instead of a the uber coolness of the 2.0 twin cam motor we got the low rev single cam 2.3 turbo from the svo mustangs. Some other odds and ends were differant but thats the biggie, not to mention it was sold as a bmw 3series level luxury car. Sierra cossie's are the sex! Keep that car and keep it in good shape. (by the way, can you tell i like your car?) B)

its also much more of a social norm for parents to buy their kids cars here in the US... i dont know that many people under 23 who have fully paid for their own car w/ insurance in their own name. most at least get help from parents, if not everything... (looks to friend w/ yellow land rover outside and growls)

haha.. social norm.. i'd disagree with that!

I heard that it costs BOAT LOADS of cash to get licensed and insured in europe, which deters most people that don't need to drive from driving in the UK.

i wish my parents bought me my volvo, the closest they came was letting me use thier '91 chev sprint for a couple years.

mind you, i do kinda feel like an old guy here sometimes (24)

Well yes cars are expensive here as is fuel, 98 Ron Shell is around £1.00 a litre still, and yes Michael 10 yr old T5's in UK still sell for £2000 or more so are out of the reach of youngsters anyway. Your all so lucky, i'm only jealous really! :D

Well, I'm from the UK and have been driving T5's since 17, I bought my own when I ws 19 which cost twice the price as your example, plus another £2000 for an engine change and nearly £1000 in servicing and maintenance! I insure and pay for everything myself too, no parental contribution there.

I'm currently 21, and I'm aiming for an Audi S4 Avant (bi-turbo, 6-spd) by 22.
