ultra_runner
OK - starting a new thread with a new/same problem.Third time installing the manifold. Got brand new bolts and gasket. No cutting corners.I've torqued all bolts on the intake manifold to 15 ft-lbs. Manual calls for 14 and yangotang says he torqued his to "~26". I'm still getting rough idle (although better than before - can actual stay running) and I hear boost leak at about 4-5psi.So here is the question - I have new factory bolts that should take upwards of 26 ft-lbs of torque according to the spec, but the manual calls for 14 and I still have leak. What have other people torqued these to?I'm thinking of torquing to about 20-22, but I'm not in the mood of breaking any (more) bolts and starting over again!!!!Help - so I can show up at the meet on Saturday!!!Scott C. Mesoam
can you ID where you are hearing the leak from? Try having some one brake boost (mash brake, mash gas) for a few seconds (yes you will build boost) and find exactally where its coming from. For some reason I doubt its the mani

It could be coming from one of the nipple fittings, the injector seals, the big round plug on the end of the manifold, the vacuum tree could be cracked or loose, or leak could be coming from the throttle body mating surface. ultra_runner
If you caught the previous thread on this, we're talking all new vacuum lines and they're all in the right place (even triple checked against my other 850). TB has a new seal. Vacuum tree - everything capped or intact. Injector rings... now that is a one that didn't pop in my mind. I'll try that next.Any input on the manifold torque??? Stay at 14~15???Scott C.
yangotang
I'm checking it on VADIS at the moment. If you want some help you can hit me up on my cell tomorrow, i'll be in the area (gotta go to pick up my laptop which I left at Bing's house in San Jose).I sent you a PM, and i'll update once i get the torque spec.Checked VADIS, says 20 Nm (or 15 lb-ft) is the proper tightening torque for all the screws. ultra_runner
Thanks Alex - Like I said... I torqued to 15, so I'll check the O rings next. Then onto the next areas.Question... is there supposed to be a gasket at the base of the vacuum tree? I didn't see one, and was wondering. I'll take a peek at the other (stock) 850.Scott C. starfish
Did you have the battery disconnected when you removed the intake manifold? If not, try pulling out the ECM for a half hour before reinstalling it. Doing so will reset the base idle.

Should take about 5 minutes as they are right on the front of the manifold.
ultra_runner
Thanks guys. I have the battery disconnected and ECU pulled. I'm trying that. I will teflon the nipples in the front of the manifold this afternoon (after work).I'll pick up some injector O rings on my way home from work as well.Scott C. There's an O ring at base of vac tree.HTH.

Slater
S@*T....No biggie. Just use some high temp grey RTV sealant. Done.
KLS
An air leak can often be heard by holding one end of a piece of tubing to your ear and the other end at locations of possible leaks. Some folks squirt starter fluid at possible leak spots. The engine will idle faster, or maybe it'll be too rich and the engine will stumble, but that'll find the leak. BE CAREFUL...VERY FLAMMABLE.Ken
ultra_runner
So much fun and not enough time!!!OK - I replaced that O ring gasket at the base of the vacuum tree. Darn small O ring too! But - same problem. I still have the injector O rings to replace today, and teflon tape those manifold nipples. Will try the "hose" and starter fluid approach. Thanks.Scott C.
