15 Psi Vs 17psi

This has come up over and over again and I didnt want to hijack someone elses thread .

It seems that there are always questions when it comes to ST chips i.e. whether to go 15 Psi or 17 Psi.

I dont think the 15G on the T-5r or the 850R can hold boost above 1 bar(~14.5 psi) . Therefore, getting a 17Psi chip would be a waste. Wouldnt you also be ruining your A/F ratio?

I am just wondering because it always confuses me why people suggest getting the 17psi chip when most people are on their stock turbo.

PS If the powers that be think this thread should be moved , please feel free to (not that you wouldnt ;))

if you get a good free flowing exhaust system, the 15G can handle the 17psi

if you don't want to run the full 17, don't floor the accelerator all the time

why pay the same for less performance?

and the S70 guys almost always go with the 17 only because the turbo's are better than the 850 variants

My point was that a lot of the people who get the chip upgrade, have stock exhausts and stock downpipes.

For the S70, yes I guess it makes sense.

incase you haven't notice alot of people just go for "immediate results" and apparently don't care anout much else.....

I have noticed

Personally, I'm getting the 15psi map. I want my brilliant conical 15g to be more efficient specially in our fantastic weather <_<

Ali from personal experience the chip alone will cause problems in Qatar. I dont know how far chip technology has come in the last 10 years for the T-5R but when I lived in the UAE , my friends T-5R was chipped and we were constantly having issues with the car. Since there were no shops in the UAE that sold chips , we had to send his ECU to the UK for the chip everytime something went wrong.

When I wanted to upgrade , I went with the IPD ECU. If you can afford it, please explore that option.

If you are going to, or anyone for that matter, is going to purchase an ECU upgrade, do not do business with Oliver at SPeedtuning. They perform horrible worlk, and even worse customer service.

I had no problems at all :) .

I contacted him regularly and everything went well. I'll deal with Oliver again anytime.
