Noahkk19
A few kids at my school have hooked themselves up with sound systems for $175 at MAX. Such as getting 2 10's in a pretty light weight box and an amp from somebody and buying a sound kit to adapt it into their audio sysem...Sounds bootleg, but then again I remember how I don't have a job and how I'd loooove to push some big bass in my car, so I was wondering...How feasible would that be on an 850? I'd need a box that's easily removable just because there's times when I need to put a lot of crap in the back of the wagon, and I'd like to be able to easily unplug a few things and take it out of the car at night or at a time when I think someone would like to bust into my stuff. Sooo get me started in the right direction somebody?
JPigg34
For $175 you will have to go to Wal-mart. Lightning Audio. If you can afford to send alittle more say like $250 you could go Wal-mart box, Wal-mart wiring kit, and used amp off eBay and a used sub off eBay and you will be set. 850 Stylzz
I cant inagine anything under 200 pushing "big bass" sounding anywhere near good. Spend that on an infinity basslink, and have all kinds of free space. You aren't going to wake the neighbors, but it should be nice.
Bing_0
if you go used you can definetly do it, and do it with decent quality:1. usacoustics 2100 go for way lesst han 100 on ebay used2. get two 12s like kenwood, sony, pioneer, etc etc, youc an find them for less than a 100 for a pair soemtimesstick them in a dual prefab box, there you go will it sound GREAT? no, but it wont be like legacy either b
Noahkk19
my biggest peave is distortion , but I would MOST likely get that if I went the cheap route? God it sucks being spoiled and not having to work for things, I'll probably just have to nag my parents for somthin nice. Actually, subs would be free, I forgot my friend has some for me and he speaks real highly of them, I'll tell ya'll what kind next time we talk. But sounding good is my biggest thing, I don't wanna be a ghetto banger and have tons of bass with filty distortion...
turbobrick
... wow, your trying to cheap out and your getting the subs for free... lolGO WITH THE FREE SUBS... one of my friends got an old kicker for free.. looks like a POS but it sounds OKAY for his application.. he has about 1-2ft of trunk depth so we took a truck box and put it in that.. sounds fine... not HIGH QUALITY but okay atleast
jb7073
Actually I came close to that. $45 each for 2 New Digital Audio 400watts RMS dual voice coil subs. $60 for a used band-pass box. $40-60 for a 400watt Optimus amp at a pawn shop (nice one with dual power supplies). That all came to less than $200 with wire. However I kept going, as that wasn't enough. But yes, it can be done with some luck and good hookups. Chris_R
For $175 you will have to go to Wal-mart. Lightning Audio. The deals are out there, just gotta look. Bing's amp suggestion is solid. The only part that may cause distortion is the way you would be hooking into the factory deck. If you follow the directions for tapping into the CD changer plug then you should be fine. Let us know what kind of subs they are. Maybe we can do a tech day and build you a box. You'd have to supply the supplies and all the cold Diet Coke I can drink. I have the tools and the skills. -Chris

Guest Guest_Noahkk16
Just to update on my quest. This summer I will be earning ATLEAST $300, so I guess that ups my options a bit. :)
tallahasseegreys
Here's my set up in my wagon. It's fairly stealth, definetly not showy, sub is easily removed. One 10" Polk Momo sub, and a Kenwood amp that powers my 4 door speakers and the sub. Not the cheapest stuff, but definetly not high end. It sounds very goos for what I listen to...mostly rock, blues, and talk radio (hahaha). Maybe this setup will give you a few ideas.pic 1pic 2pic
Guest Guest_NoahKK16
nice setup, very stealthy, probably outta my league thoThat's why I was thinking of something that I could easily take in and out, I have tints on the car but they're not THAT dark, and people do get their sound systems jacked and that would be the last thing I need
pimpinavolvo
i've actually got two sony subs and a box that i'd sell you for around, say, 125 or so if you paid shipping. they're very nice subs, 300 watts RMS and 1200 maxthe box is a prefab box from Q-Logic. i'd say that if you split your 300 in half- half for amp, half for subs/box you'd be very happy. let me know (pm)

Noahkk19
OK, so thanks to pimpininavolvo I've got 1/3 of my sound system quest done. He'll be providing me with a prefab box, two 12' sony subs (haha, sounds like food), and a warranty on them all for $150. With shipping and handling I'm guessing that'd add like $20? Which is fine, I have that laying around easy. BUT OK, I'm curious/scared about...1)All the wire mumbo jumbo, how hard would that be?2)Once I have it all set up, will the bass put out from my car speakers be eliminated? It'd be kinda dumb to have two 12's beating and my car speakers trying their best too 3)I'm gonna need ideas on ampsI hope you guys understand or it's obvious that I'm not sound proficient at all, so all the help/knowledge/anything you guys tell me will help.
