exexpat would you please tell me how you would go about it....

Your cleanest/best bet is to get a factory hood pin switch assembly from a VW Golf/Jetta 3 (wrecking yard). They have a nice factory bracket that mounts to the shock tower and the pin has a rubber boot over it. If you can't get that, there are many varieties available at autoparts stores that look like this:

(the VW one is much beefier and the aftermarket ones often break)

You would run a constant lead from the positive terminal of your battery through a 5-10 amp fuse, then to the light, from the under hood light (ebay or maybe) auto parts store) to a switch that provides gound:

You could even use a foglight, if you can't find a good candidate for an under hood light. In the under hood light case, the light housing is usally grounded, but you would need to ground it through the switch using a ground wire and not grounding the housing. After that, you are done. I suggest running the wires like the washer nozzle lines, but on the driver's side and use 1/4" loom for a factory look. The hood needs to depress the mounted pin switch obviously. It sounds complicated, but once you have the parts, it is a 15 minute job - as any car alarm installer can attest.

the best set up that i have seen is under the hood of some of the fullsized chevy trucks, there is an underhood light that acts like a drop light. it is on a retractable coil. basicly it looks like a normal light but you can pull on it and move the light to anyplace your working and then it just retracts back when your done.

that way you do not block the light with your head when doing some work or checking things.

should be able to find those in the JY pretty easy and then use the VW/ switch to hook it up and do not forget your fuses.

i can find one of our trucks that has this light if people aer interested.

My 83 Ford Bronco had a similar light. Very cool.
