Volvoboi24
Like the title says, I had the oil sump seal (uplift seal) replaced today because the dealership thought it was the culprit (a $700 dollar mistake, ouch ).. but i still have a ticking sound that increases with the rev's after approx 20 minutes of driving... what other conditions could cause this? Thanks in advance

tenn850
See my post on this subject yesterday "Annoying thicking" on page 2. I have done the same thing (but for $460) and no results.

Volvoboi24
So its the o-rings or lifters? If I bent a connecting rod, what kind of noise would I hear? and would the noise be present when the engine is cold too?

tenn850
I drive the car daily and I get up to 85-90 mph for short times. The ticking is there all the time after the engine is warmed up. I have been driving it like this for 3-4 years, 30k miles without any change in the noise level or engine performance. There is multiple lifters ticking noise sometimes at start up after the car has been sitting for a couple of days, but for a few seconds only. It goes away with oil pressure building up after 3-4 seconds, then until the oil gets real hot no ticking noise.I would suspect one of the lifters is not taking hot oil well and bleeds down. They are at about $145 for all the 20 lifters in a kit at Volvo!
Volvo Virgin
There is multiple lifters ticking noise sometimes at start up after the car has been sitting for a couple of days, but for a few seconds only. It goes away with oil pressure building up after 3-4 seconds, then until the oil gets real hot no ticking noise.According to Volvo these cars will "normally" make lifter noise for a few seconds on cold start-up.Mine has done it since I bought it a year ago with 59K on it,and the dealer even pointed it out to me in the owner's manual.I also have a ticking noise, that is very noticeable with the hood down, but when I open the hood the noise is much softer and seems to be normal injector noise when I isolate it.Just odd how it is louder wtih the hood down,so I have just attributed it to some sort of echo amplified by reverbing off the hood. Sinbad
Also had engine ticking caused by leaking exhaust manifold gasket...
Ocotillo
Mine has intermittant ticking noise as well, even after being warmed up. I removed the pan and replaced all the oil seals and it did not help. All the shops where i live say don't worry about it. I figure I'll wait till it either gets worse or when I get the extra time and money pull the top and replace the lifters. It doesnt seem to affect performance. Jaxx
I have the same problem... before the next oil change i plan to put in some oil adative, run it hard, it will come out like water...I took it to my mechanic he said its nothing to worry about, but it should just annoy you...He said it can happen if you leave your car sitting, or if you don't change the oil on time, overshot by as little as 500 miles. emax had the same problem right? fixed with some oil adative?also, he said if you don't let the engine warm up and you revv the hell out of it while its still cold, you don't have oil up there, of course, and could cause some problems.
