Jozone
Well, I've been doing my research looking around for a new amplifier, and think that I have a winner.Originally I was looking at JBL's BP line which offers an awesome power/price ratio.. the only cons about the JBL's are that they arent widely available anymore, dont have a subsonic filter, and have an unregulated power supply. The kenwood has an unregulated power supply (do all mono amps?), but judging by reviews has a great crossover system. Both the BP1200.1 and X810 are generally the same price on ebay (~$260). Unless has anyone has info to convince me other wise the X810 seems like a good choice for a <$300 subwoofer amp..Product Links:Kenwood X810D Specs - Ebay SellerJBL BP1200.1 @ SounddomainWill my stock 100 amp alternator, and 4 guage wiring be enough for one of these? If not what should I upgrade? Thanks Guys,Joe
Bing_0
1st if all, why do you WANT a subsonic filter? do you not like to hear the really low stuff? or do you have a ported box you want to protect the subwoofers?as for as regulated and unregualted powersupplies, you are talking about quite a minimal difference as long as your car is on, as the jbl bp600.1 is rated at 600x1 at 14.4 volots, say you have your car ac on, light son, and you are putting out like 13.8 volots, so you get around what...500 watts? but then again, remmeber that jbl is underranted, so you probably be getting around 600 true watts anyway, and thats only when your music really demands a full 600 watts from the amp...in other words, no audible difference between a 600 watt regulated amp and a 600 watt unregulated amp when your car is on...the kenwood is a pretty good amp, but the jbl beats it by a healthy 400 watts...see if you can find some other amps from these brandslanzar opti drive, waht ever their big class D iscrossfireUsacousticshifonics zeusearthquake rockford fosgatekickermtxespecially MTX thunder series, if you can find a old 501D or what ever its called, the 500 watt x1 rated amp, it did 980 watts on the test bench...talk about conservative ratings b
Jozone
how about the stock alternator... will it be okay running those amps?
Bing_0
i have no clude what our stock alternator rating is...anyone? but if its at or over 100 amps you would be fine, if you see slight light dimming, a cap may help, if you ahve major light dimming, then you need more amperage from your alternator...b
AnthonyR
If I remember right it's either 125 or 130 amps. Would have to look to know for sure. I give a big thumbs up to the 600.1 JBL amp. It's what I have powering my IDQ's and I have that and another 300W rms Kenwood amp for the fronts and the car does just fine and runs at about 13.8-14.0 with all the accessories on. Jamaica2G
Hey, I can get you MTX 1501D's for like $250 plus shipping. I have a friend who has 24 for sale - no not stolen and no 5 finger discount. It was rated at 1000X1 @ 2 ohm at 12V and like 1400X1 @ 14.4V A REALLY SERIOUS AMP. It tests to about 14-1500 watts RMS. You interested? It would blow away any of these other amps you are considering for only like $25 more.Adrian
Jozone
as good a deal as that is... Im pretty sure it would be overkill for my application... thanks for the offer though.
Bing_0
there is neve such a thing as too much power, if your usb cant take the full rated rms output turn the gain down so you have more dynamic head room...more power is always a good thing...b
