Bing,

Glad to see you're documenting your audio buildup!

I'm a little ashamed that you're going to compete in the consumer class though!

I am also a little distressed to see what you did to those beautiful Sony amps!

Will you at least add the Mobile ES badge to one side when it's done? Or do you want to keep everyone guessing?

hahah, well, to be honest, I wont be competing that much...and i think it will be more fun to compete in the lower classes hehehe...

as for the sony amps...well, no there will be no visible sony badging on the ouside, and dont get stressed too much :) its just those covers that got mutilated, the actual amp itself is still intact, and you havent seen the finished product yet :)

now another good thing about these is that they are not crazy expensive, i mea, if they were like 1000 each, i would think twice before modding them, but hey, i got them at a crazy deal ;) and they still pop up once in a while on ebay...:P

Where you gonna put that (those) monster(s)?

I went nuts trying to keep my spare tire and take up very liittle space. Probably the least appreciated and most troublesome aspect of my installation was amp location. If I had web space to post a picture, I'd be proud to show off what was done.

Sign up for PhotoBucket at www.photobucket.com. That or e-mail it to me and I'll throw it up there for you.

They allow direct linking and everything.

I have a monster amp (Aura 6 channel!) to hide as well so I'm always looking for ideas.

Thanks!

volvo logo looks awesome, amazing work as always.

Looks good, but I personally think it would have looked nice if it had a black edge around the lettering. It would make the logo stand out even more instead of blending in with the amp cover.

Dude, that amp case: heavenly. :D You've just given my an idea (yeah, I know, run for cover...); my Volvo dealership is across the street from school, so next chance I get, I'm going to go get me some Volvo badges and stick 'em all over everything. Ha ha. Exams are driving my nuts. <_<

BTW: Does anyone know what the speaker sizes are for the 1st gen V70s? And how the hell do you get the gilles off the doors? Just one more question: Where can you get outboard EQ's and would one fit below a standard sized HU in my car? It LOOKS as though it's a double space rack, but I'm not sure.

Cheers,

Al

  • 2 weeks later...

for my car i did the sub in the spare tire wheel well, but i took the spare out (ive added enough weight allready) and for the amp i wanted to compleatly hide it because im not allabout showing off and because its not that great looking! so to keep it out of sight i just built a shelf/ cubby on the underside of the partical board then i drilled holes in the side of the shelf so i could easily run my lines and cables and then to top it all off ... get this i found some auto carpeting at odd lots that is a dead on match it looks sweet

hey guys, firstly, want to let you know that most likely, nothing is going to be done to my car for a few weeks, i have a POS grand am right now, then an rx8 (a VERY interesting install for that one ), and have to finish the porsche;s final sanding and assembly...but after that, I will have time to work on my car, looks like it wont be done until the very end of summer :(

hey stop copying my idea of volvo badged equipment hehe

as for ouboard eqs, I am not a fan of in dash eqs, i think a good system should be tuned with an stand alone 15-31 band eq, set at a certain setting and left...imean a good system should produce sound accurantely, and there fore sound good with any kind of music, the only tunability I like is the subwoofer control upfront...cause times, you just want that extra oomph, and other times, you dont. :)

one in dash eq i have installed in the past, is the alpine 190, which is acutally a subwoofer professor with a few bands of eq built in, but they are very hard to find now...
