The New S80

hot. I am digging it, projectors finally, it doesn't really need RWD, it has to be able to handle driving in snow, BMW is lacking at that. It just needs new AWD system based on rear wheels instead of front, if it makes any sense to you. Yes it needs 18" wheels and maybe 20" stock optional??? ohh and i am sure, that middle silver line on trunk can be removed for cleaner look. installing aftermarket system will be pita though and that shifter is ugly i agree.

All good points. AWD would be more beneficial than FWD and it can be based on the S60 setup. 18" stock rims, 20" would be a bit to much. Overall, it looks good. Can't wait to see it in person. :D

A drifting car?

As for the wheels, I think stock Pegs would look nice. Maybe something more complex would also be a good match. Anything but those... B)

Yeah. I don't know why everyone is so bent out of shape over FWD. The appeal of this car is not in any means of a sporting nature. RWD would not make it markedly better or push more units out of the dealer lots.

AWD is a decent compromise for those who are abhorently against FWD. Though those same people probably would never be able to tell the difference between AWD/FWD/RWD in daily chores.

True again. Most people who drive this car do not rely on AWD or RWD and FWD would suffice. For many, it would provide better handling. However, to compromise for the majority of demographics, Volvo probably decided to make AWD. Whatever it is, I'm sure this car will be pleasant to drive. ;)

V8 would probably be around the 310 that it makes now right?

And AWD would be much better. We all know the problems with FWD, and anyone who steps on the peddle hard or tries to turn while accelerating can tell why AWD or RWD is better.

And the 6 speed auto sounds so much better. I have a 4 speed much like everyone else.

I hate 4 speeds.....

Volvo uses 5 speed autos right now and 6 speed manuals. Only the V8s will probably see the 6 speed autos because they need them for better fuel economy.

As far as the engines in the new S80 goes it will likely be offered with:

3.2L Inline 6 (NA) making 238hp/236ft-lbs

3.0L Inline 6 (LPT) making 285hp/295ft-lbs

4.4L Yamaha V8 (NA) making 311hp/325ft-lbs

There is also a 350hp HPT 3.0L I6, but chances they'll use that in the same car as the V8 are unlikely. That will probably be used as the next Volvo and Jaguar R engines as well as by Ford for the Focus RS, according to AutoWeek. If an S80 "R" is offered it will likely be the V8 with forced induction.

I doubt Volvo will make an S80 "R" It's a shame to see that the LPT will only make 285. That's only 13hp more than the current T6. <_<

Ok... I don't know why a 13hp increase is a shame... yeah... but the V8 has 43HP more than the T6. If you want to compare the new S80s engines to the old ones you would want to be comparing the standard engines (new 3.2L NA I6 makes 42 more horsepower than the old 2.9L NA I6), the low pressure turbo engines (new 3.0L LPT I6 makes 76 more horsepower than the old 2.5T engine), and then the top end engines (new 4.4L V8 makes 43 more horsepower than the old T6, and the new 3.0L HPT I6 makes 82HP more than the old T6).

I heard they couldn't fit a turbo or a supercharger on the V8 because of lack of space in the S80? Probably won't be an S80 R, it'll just be like the V8 in the best.

And anyone think they'll stuff the V8 into the S60 or any Wagon (V90....) at any time? Not much of a point, but sounds sweet.
