matt1122
Lotus was the engine design, Porsche did not have and never had 5 cylinder designs, these are OEM companies and I have family that now work for Ford so I can’t rely all the info. But I know for a fact Porsche and Volvo never had an affialtion.I am not suggesting or offering an idea, I am telling you how it was. Someone post the "Don't mess with the mods" pic, please.Weissach is a Porsche lab, they designed or helped design the engine, the specifics are not completely known.I bet you'd tell us all Yamaha does not have an association with Volvo, either. StickThatClutch
Lotus 4 cylinder of this vintage (ie Esprit) was more or less craptastical. If they had a hand in the I5 engine design it wouldn't be a good thing. <_<

Lotus and Porsche were both small companies back in the 80’s before they got bought out. Ford and VW.That is like you saying that IBM and DELL make there own computers. IBM is made by Livion in china and Dell is made by Compal in Taiwan. I know this because I'm in the computer industry and my Uncle is in the car Industry. It’s the real world and most big companies share or buy from the same place. Sorry to burst your bubble but that is that facts.

Sorry you did not know that as wellOk. You're off your rocker. I go to Germany twice a year. First of all Stuttgart is the city of MERCEDES BENZ not VAG. That's Wolfsburg. Porsche is in Zuffenhausen. Just because the SUVs are on the same platform doesn't mean that VAG owns Porsche group.Oh yeah just for future reference BMW is in Munich. <_<
gaterp
Porsche's production operations are housed in a collection of established buildings on a mixed industrial estate in Zuffenhausen, yes I know this please don't be petty Stuttgart is main city and lived ther for 5 yrs

And how does this prove your point that VAG owns Porsche group?VfB Stuttgart don't look too good this year. <_<

StickThatClutch
Porsche owned by VW????!!!!!!!!!!!!!You:Let me prove it StephenFor serious. If this simple point is wrong - why should the more obscure point hold any merit? It makes no sense that Lotus would do any engine design when all the mills the came up with in the late 80's early 90's were such crap. The later model cars all had engines borrowed from Rover. So where would the talent come from to produce engines for such a relatively large make as Volvo? I had an inside tip that the seat heaters on the Volvo were made by Ferrari.
exexpat
I'm looking for more evidence for 850 specifically, so far I've found that Audi supplied the TDI motors directly for the 850s and 870shttp://www.autoscout24.de/content_ger/maga...w_volvo_850.asp
R4Life
You can say Porsche own a little bit of VW but not the other way around.

Pre D5 Volvo had no inhouse diesel motors for passenger cars. That motor has nothing in common with any of the 5 cylinder petrol engines.
exexpat
Here is the group description from Volkswagen corporate, notice no mention of Porsche, a separate entity:Das Pkw-Geschäft des Konzerns ist in zwei Markengruppen unterteilt. Edit: In fact, I remember the contrary was true to avoid takeover, from CarInsider.com:It looks like Porsche is planning on buying a 20% stake in Volkswagen in order to prevent a hostile takeover from investors. Why would Porsche care you ask? Porsche and Volkwagen already work together on developing hybrid vehicles and recently worked together to produce the Cayenne.
