'99 V70 Xc Rear Window Wiper

I'm having some problems with the rear wiper on my '99 V70XC. The wiper operates just fine, but appears to have lost any concept of its parking location. Whenever it's in intermitant mode, the wiper stops in a random location, and when it's full-on, it stops whereever it is when I shut the switch off. I know that when my Jeep Cherokee did something similar, it meant that I needed to hit up the junkyard for a new motor, but I'm hoping that there's a relay or something that I'm missing in this case. Anyone have a similar problem?

I have not run into anything like that yet in my shop but when I first read it I was thinking the motor myself? Hard to troubleshoot something like that without getting hands on with the car and it's simply a guess? ;)

I had this same problem with the front wipers on a BMW 325. The BMW boards had write ups of it as pretty commion on the E30 series, and pinpointed fix to taking the motor out and cleaning up contacts -there is a circular contact ring with gaps where it parks, if I remenber correctly. Issue is partly at least the grease getting in wrong places, not actual wear of the contacts. I think it took about an hour all up, so worth a try. We still have the car, and problem has not recurred after probably 3-4 years.

I am almost positive that it is the contact ring on the drive gear. I am one of the design engineers for ScanTech and have worked on the wiper motors for the 2001 XC70. When you shut off the power to the wiper motor it actually has power going to the motor all the time. There are essentially two power circuits for the motor. One is the section that you turn off and on and the other is part of the park control. There is a contact ring on the main gear that power is passed through to make the motor move. The ring is contiuous where the main power is applied and there is a gap in the ring where the park posistion is. What happens is that when you shut off the motor the power is still passing though the ring with the park circuit. When the ring roatates to the section where the break is the motor stops and the wiper is parked. If you are not getting the motor to park then most likely the contacts are dirty and the park ciruit is not making correct contact.
