Ecu Flexibility

ok. Im thinking about which of the ecu upgrades to put on my car. Speedtuning is looking good just because of how cheap it is. The problem is that i plan on future engine mods. I know the stock ecu doesnt respond well to such things, but how do chipped ones handle upgrades? Which one of them accepts upgrades the best? or is this just an inherent problem with the type of ecu the car has?

upsolute is a great company. If you are planning on some major upgrades they are a great way to go. Vms and I are working on some ecu programs to go with our vms products like the turbo kit etc, which will use the upgrades to the fullest. But if you are really planning on going all out I would recommend going stand alone.

There is already an ongoing discussion about the tunable management system for Volvo's. As discussed (see signature links), you're going to need to go piggyback if you want to be able to tune your car progressively or even correctly at all. Getting a reflashed ecu or "chip" is 10+ years old technology and there is no such thing as a universal tune (i.e. one reflash map for all cars with different tuning levels).

S40 Euro, you too are going Unichip? For my own case, it's been decided: UNICHIP.

I have access to a dyno tuner in Santa Rosa: Fine Line Imports (www.finelineimports.net).

Do you have any idea what the Unichip actually does, or how it works?

We're still unclear about your goals.

I like how you ignore me and threadjack. Kudos on earning a slice of :pizza:.

like i said before unichip would be all good and well if i had anyone near me that could make different maps and then test it on dynos, but considering that there arent all that many that can do that in the US and the fact that the unichip costs $800+ and wont provide that much of an improvement over just having a chip done unless you plan to make major mods AFTER you get it chipped kind of makes me not to eager to put down that much cash. What i dont understands is that everyone keeps talking about reflashing the ecu that i would put in my car. I thought they couldnt reflash the older ecu's like mine or is that just with the stock chip?

I am planning to do so but there is only one delaer in Turkey and it is located in Izmir 600 km. to drive.

But they are doing everything on dyno they call it load type dyno (word by word translation from Turkish dont know the exact name) first they fill the 1000 rpms mapping like 1K 2K 3K etc.. then system will fill the blanks if you want something special they do 100 rpm scale while the car is on the dyno and under load.

Its called an "Eddy Current" dyno. If your serious about tuning, thats what you want to use. Dynojets are great and get the job done, but an Eddy is the way to go if one is available.
