slarti
Does anyone have any directions/pics that discribe how to change the front struts? I'm thinking about doing this myself but would like to see how difficult it might be before I decide to try it.Any help would be appreciated. slarti
Thanks that link was pretty helpful. So it sounds like I should replace my strut mounts, I was hoping I wouldn't have to. How long do they usually last? I've got about 88K miles on the car.
jb7073
Yeah, with that milage they are probably gone. My right one started making noise around 80k. When I replaced my struts, my left one had tears in it too, just wasn't making noise. It's about $20 per side. Not too bad of a price in comparison to the other things you have to look forward to failing

jb7073
I think you mean the spring seats, I was wondering about the strut mounting plate with the bearings.Sorry, most people have their spring seats fail.As far as the mounting plate with the bearings, I'm not sure. Might want to ask Rich how often he replaces them. They're just a little more expensive.
850boston
I replaced just the spring seat for $28 and the rattle went away: http://www.autodoctorparts.com/frames.php?...odoctor&make=VOsure beats $100 for the mounting plate or $400+ for the complete job both sides.I am sure I am just buying some time, but thats what it's all about with cars right? Time to replacement...
slarti
Is there any difference between the strut mount from volvo and the one from FCPgroton, also is there a difference between the spring seats? The price difference is significant, but I'm willing to pay more if the quality is significantly higher for the volvo part. Also, is there anything else I should replace while I have everything apart? pmacca
:D I just replaced my struts and rear shocks about 3 weeks ago. It was no problem. I bought the parts from FCP Groton. Goty great prices on everything. I replaced everything too ( except springs). I asked if they would give a discount for Volvospeed members and they gave me free shipping. The strut mount is about $75.00 each! Ouch! I figured if I was going through all the labor I might as well replace them while I'm at it. I replaced the rear shocks too. I had to remove a panel from the third seat i have in the rear, but not a big deal. Over all it was not a difficult job and i saved alot of money in labor and parts! Be sure to get the car aligned when you are finished! Good Luck! Larry
