850 Stylzz
would be awesome if you could take some pics when you do it. That's definitely a good idea. The only question is whether or not I am up to it. It on all honesty sounds pretty complicated. I have more than a few qualms about turning my rear deck into a piece from a jig-saw puzzle But then again, maybe I am making it seem harder than it is. Again, CAE, would love to see how you do your project. I know more than a few people have entertained an idea like that and Im sure some pictures or a short write-up would make a whole lot of peoples day. 850 Stylzz
the rear deck project has been discussed before. you would have re-enforce the deck alot more than it is to prevent rattles and add strengthI think this guy knows what he is doing. Let's defer a little. ;)
CAE
You are right, it can be a bit complicated.I have done this several times and had no such issues with the rear deck needing to be re-enforced. If the top of the enclosure is a solid structure, say 3/4" MDF, and is secured by enough screws or bolts that pass from the top of the rear deck into the enclosure, the rear deck will not need structural support. If you are trying to hold the enclosure up with 4 screws, yes you will have problems! To prevent sqeaking from the wood rubbing the rear deck, a simple layer of ozite carpet can be adhered to the enclosure before it is mounted. If you have rattles on the rear deck, something is not secure - revert back to not having enough screws or bolts in place. After all Stylzz, you appear to be looking for something in the 8 to 10-inch range and will likely not be dealing with a great deal of weight for the sub and enclosure combo. If you were trying to hang two 60lbs subs from the rear deck, you may have structural problems.

850 Stylzz
The more I think about it, the more I want to puss out. My mood right now just doesn't want to let me do something too custom, so I am thinking about buying a powered sub--wither the Infinity or the Kenwood.Right now I'm leaning slightly towards the Kenwood, mainly for reasons of being able to mount it in the cabin. Possibly mountable under either seat--or if I thought it acceptable, Just below the rear seat (although I've yet to check to see if there is space.)Mounting in the cabin allows for 3 things as far as I am concerned. 1. Easier install. I wouldn't have to run wires into the trunk like I would with the basslink. Not that this is too hars, but I feel compelled to mention it.2. Stealth. Really something I want. For reasons of not encroaching into usable sppace as well as keeping things clean and out of sight. 3. Clarity. I simply do not believe that the sound could be as clear with something in the trunk vs. something in the cab. Trunk might be great for "boom" but not for clarity. That said, I am tentative, as the Kenwood may be underpowered. Not that I want to be ghetto pimpin, but I would still like to be able to listen at a reasonable volume and not get pised at the system. So, does anyone have any experience with either of these products? Especially the kenwood? here is a link. Chris_R
Make sure you measure before you buy. Something tells me that the w00x isn't going to fit (15" x 4-1/2" x 8"). You might be better off with a small prefab box or 2 (like truck boxes maybe) that sit on the floor behind the front seats. They're easily removeable, can have handles, and if you use enough speaker-wire you could stick them in the trunk easily when you have passengers. -Chris

I know someone who stored some of those in our basement for a while. Those were real easy to move around. Handles and everything. You could bolt your amp to the box, and as long as you had some sort of "snap in" connectors for the wiring, you could remove it easily.
850 Stylzz
Dont get me wrong, it is a good idea. Just probably not for me. Yo quiero la stealth. I hope the "wOOx" does fit. I really think that is the drection I am heading. If not, Im just going to dump a basslink in the trunk.meh.
Jozone
dont be afraid of running wire to the trunk... piece of cake, dont make that a reason for getting the kenwood.
850 Stylzz
dont be afraid of running wire to the trunk... piece of cake, dont make that a reason for getting the kenwood.Heh, you should see the bundles I have running into and out of the trunk. My speaker/amp install has me well accoustomed to that. That's not my worry at all. In fact, I believe it would be EASIER to run wiring into the trunk than it would be to underneath either of the seats. What is my trouble is the fact that putting something into the trunk might A. muddy the bass that I am getting in the cabin (I want clean articulated bass, not "boom boom", and B. Take up space that I dont want used. I already have the drivers side wal filled with the amp that drives my speakers. The basslink is big and deep and may not even be mount-able on the passenger side. I went out to measure last night to see if the Kenwood would fit iunder either of the seats. Drivers side was definitely out...the seat motor takes up too much room. the passenger side fit fine for length and width, but height seems to be a problem. There looks to be a support bar that is in the way. How essential is this bar? could I cut it out? Or would the foam then crush the woofer when someone sat in that seat? Boost Addicted
I jamed a 8" bazooka EL8HP in my spare tire well. Works great! Can't even see it. check my sig for a link to my web page
850 Stylzz
Yeah, but I dont think I'd dump my spare. I know I'd save some weight too, but I really like that comfort of knowing it is there. Also, Im still putting something in the trunk, which if possible I'd like to avoid. My latest thought is to put two of the Clarion 303's under my drivers and passenger seats. Im pretty sure those will fit. Unfortunately the wOOx wont. Anyone know where I can get two on the cheap? :P
Chris_R
Have you considered swapping out the rear deck speakers for a set of DVC 6x9s? I think it was Blaupunkt that made them. The second voice coil allows you to hook a dedicated sub-amp to them so you can add/reduce bass at will.I really don't think you're going to fit squat under the seats. I can barely get my fist under there. Also maybe look into Coustic Bass Pumps. You find those on Ebay from time-to-time (noe at the moment of course). Or what about Aura Bass Shakers (those are all over Ebay all the time)? They fit under most seats and help give the feeling of extended bass without woofers. -Chris
850 Stylzz
was actually considering the bass shakers. Wouldcertainly be a lot cheaper than a sub. they also draw low enough that they could probably pull off the HU rather than needing another separate amp. I might pick up a pair just to toy with. The clarion sub believe it or not is just under 3 inches tall. Very do-able for under the seat. At least the pass side anyway. Seat motor might get in the way on the drivers side. The deck is pretty much out of the question b/c I A. jsut bought a pair of 5x7s to go in the stock housing, and B. I dont feel like fiddling with cutting the deck. At the moment I am getting a bit disapointed with my setup. Bass is very lacking. More so than stock I believe, and I cant figure out why. One of the reasons I bought the Infinity reference was their so called "plus one" cone that was supposed to push more bass. Highs are nice and clear but there is almost no low end to speak of. Veneficus
For whatever its worth here is my fiberglass box... Fiberglass Trunk Box I got it off of ebay from some guy and it fits really nicely and give a really nice kick. I know the sub is crappy but I'm working on getting a JL 12W6V2. I've heard one of the Infinity bass links in multiple cars and they preform very well. Brian
