beachnut
I thought I would post this in audio to get more of you wiring gurus (which I am NOT by any stretch of the imagination ) to comment on. I am actually trying to hook up a couple of my gauges and I need to wire them so they turn on with the ignition. I have my dash out right now to replace my evaporator and I made a good discovery (I hope). It seems that the previous owner had a car phone wired up since I found part of the old equipment under the rear seat. Anyway, up at the relay box I found this: It's looks like a tap for ignition maybe? They had spliced into a solid red wire and a blue wire with a red stripe, then put fuses on both, then ran a solid red wire off the red wire and a green wire off the blue-red splice .. make sense? Can I use these wires for ignition on/off?
Bing_0
so you are basically trying to find the ignition wire that turns on when you turn the iginition on? its hard to tell what the wires in your pictures are, but it looks like you ahve it right if this is your main ignition harness blue wire with red stripe in your ignition harness, and it looks like you have that one with a tap coming out, that is your ignition lead, the other one, shich looks just plain red, is one of the two constant 12volt wires you have under there, meaning its always got power.so run your turn on lead from the guages to the blue wire with red stripe and you will be all set of course verify this with a test light or hech, hook up the guages if you dont have a test light.b
AnthonyR
Do you have a volt meter to test them with first? And I take it this is the 850?Ignition should be a blue with red stripe, however that wire looks a bit thin to be the main ignition wire. Here's the schematics for a 96 850 (fyi some things differ between this and the 95, ie locks are way different)12volts red + Ignition Harness (large bundle of wires coming from steering wheel)Starter green/red + Ignition Harness Ignition blue/red + Ignition Harness Accessory yellow/purple + Ignition HarnessPower Lock yellow/gray - driver door harnessPower Unlock blue/brown (double pulse) - driver door harnessParking Lights+ white + headlight switch (Notes: Use relay to isolate switch side of wire to prevent headlights from flashing)Door Trigger yellow/white - near hood release (Notes: Do not use the pink/black domelight wire since it is affected by the delay and turns off 60 seconds after the door is opened.)Trunk/Hatch Pin blue/brown - in park light harnessHood Pin yellow/black - hood pin switchFactory Alarm Arm arms with lock Factory Alarm Disarm disarms with unlock Disarm No Unlock single pulse power unlock wire Tachometer blue ac ignition coilBrake Wire yellow + brake pedal switchHorn Trigger yellow/black - horn switchNotes: Horn only works with the key in the accessory or run position.
