Euro Blinker Relay?

I just got in from Portugal yesterday and was thinking of the car I rented: VW POLO 1.2 (it was an angry one, though). Aside from haviong very good economy and scary as hell when trying to overtake, it had a couple of nice features. one in particular: the blinker would blink 3 times with one touch of the stalk as if to 'flash' the blinker.

I was curious if the Euro Volvo's had that feature and if it would be possible to get that relay, build one, etc.

I think it could come in handy

Probably wouldn't be all that hard to make something that worked. However, it would work all the time, meaning when you turned the blinker on to the full position, when it returned to the normal position, it would continue to blink 3 more times.

Good idea. Windshield wiper electrics do this already (think about how it knows where to park, even when turned off mid-sweep). The better trick the Europeans have is using them as parking spotter lights, i.e. when parked in a narrow alley and the car sticks out further than others, you can park and just illuminate one side of the parking light circuit to save power and make the car viewable to oncoming traffic. This is also achieved via the blinker switch.

That is a "get out of my way" flash. Most euro cars have them. And if its not in the blinkers its in the headlights. when I lived in Germany cruising the autobahns you would pull up behind someone w/ and flash your left blinker to tell them to get out of the way.

So, is it possible to configure the wiper relay to the parking light relay?

That would be great to iluminate the particular side that's sticking out, too!

UK Spec doesn't have this - well, not on the 1994-1996 850's or my 2003 S60!

VW Polo 1.2 <- You should try the 1.0 !

I'm goign to have to call the Portuguese distributer in Lisbon: Autosueco : for this to see if I can just order a relay or something. electricity scares me.

WOW...didn't know they went as low as a 1.0. that must be scary as hell when overtaking a truck on a 'dual carriageway', yes?

I saw one of those new MB suvs the other day, and it had both of its side view mirror pulled in. I'm thinking new automatic feature? It's not really that important in N. America, except when I'm on a ferry I usually fold them in. One time in a ferry lineup some idiot walked right into my mirror, luckily 850 side mirrors fold outwards as well as inwards!
