Sc-816 "phone" Message

Rabbit,

That proof just isn't going to cut it. I'm gonna need a picture of your face, next to today's Wall Street Journal, and the head-unit saying "Phon e" :P

J/k, thanks for posting the pic, glad to hear it worked for you.

And, uh, Kevin, maybe you want to check your facts before writing something in HUGE FONT letters that is straight up WRONG. Remember, "post count != wisdom"

Perhaps I could PhotoShop a picture with a Rabbit, the Wall Street Journal, AND a SC-816 H/U that displays Phon e! :D Would that be acceptible proof? :P

I first tried the 10K resistor to ground to limit any dangerous current flow that might have happened (just in case pin A9 wasn't the correct pin for this application). The 10K resistor to ground did indeed trigger the Phon e message, and then the connection was made from the Motorola E815 Hands Free Kit Mute Wire to the SC-816. Worked like a champ. The only problem I had was finding a terminal to connect to the pin. The A9 connection was empty from the factory, so I had to mildly distort a similar terminal to get it to work. I am going to try and locate the correct terminal as soon as possible. It's too bad Volvo didn't include a wire for this feature, and provide documentation showing support for this function.

In any case, thank you for your guidance. Much appreciated. ;)

Cheers! Rabbit

P.S. Anyone have any clue as to the Volvo P/N for these female terminals that insert into the radio connectors?

They usually don't sell the pin seperately... the most they'd sell you is another wiring harness... without the pin <_< .

Well I must say, you've done a excellent job on finding the mute function on the SC-816. Maybe i'll try it on my cousin's S70 down the road...

I guess the next step is to see if any other SC radios can support this feature... i'll try my SC-811 sometime soon, after all there are some 'unused' pins :P on the A connector.

Huh? That's interesting. In my car, all pins in the harness attaching to the radio, including the "N/C" ones were wired up through a short harness, maybe 12 inches, to a second connnector. Now this second connector did not have a pin A9 wired up, but I just tapped into the intermediary harness. FWIW, I have the Volvo "Premium" stereo, with the amp behind the heater box.

Unwrap the wire and then twist it at last bend it to double insert in the terminal while it is connected to the HU it will work. Mine setup is same.

Understood. I just don't care for making a B.S. connection. I much prefer a sound electrical connection using the right terminals. I've decided that a visit to a junkyard may be the answer. :)
