Non-volvo: Saturn Break Q

MBT

Recommended Posts

Hi. Not sure if any of you know the answer to this Q seeing as this is a VOLVO forum. :)

But I can't help but ask.

My friend's Saturn (late 90s wagon) is making a very strange noise when ABS kicks in. The sound seems to be coming from the driver side front brake.

The sound is metal in nature and is not continuous. It follows the ABS pattern: SOUND - SHORT(VERY) break - SOUND-...

ofcourse we only found it while driving in new Seattle snow, but she mentioned that she's heard it before when ABS kicked in.

Q: Does anyone know if this is a caliper issue?

Q: Do Saturns have a separate caliper for ABS use (someone mentioned tonight that they might)?

Q: Can the caliper be oiled/lubricated (I'm sort of thinking/hoping that the issue is caused by poorly lubricated brake cylinder)?

I'm going to get under the car tomorrow. Q: what should I be looking for?

Regards,

Mike
