Mass Air Flow Help

I've owned my 98 S70 turbo since new and it has approx 220,000 miles on it and drives great. Mechanically everything is brand new except the transmission, it's the original. About six months ago I had a CEL for the mass air flow sensor and a stalling issue. Therefore, I installed a brand new Bosch MAF which I purchased from Inter-Auto in San Diego, last week my CEL came on and than about 30 sec later my car stalled. I went to the dealer and they said it was a MAF code and I may need a new one. The service advisor said it's because I have a Bosch and need to purchase one from Volvo.

My question is this. If I were to purchase a MAF from the Volvo dealer is it manufactured by Bosch? From my understanding it is, and I told this to the service advisor and he said the one available from Volvo is tested and has diferent specs than the one I purchased. Is this true? Are all the MAF regardless where purchased Bosch or is there another manufacturer? Which is the best replacement?

Let me add something. When my MAF went bad, I took it out and saw it was a Bosh part. So I went to a Bosh parts place. The attendant came with a MAF unit that looked exactly the same. However the last two digits on the code on the part were different from the code on the original one. He told me that the car would probably work with the one he was showing me but that I might feel ssmall differences in performance and mileage. Then he said that there were several parts that looked exactly the same, with one or two different final digits on the code. He asked if I could wait a couple of days. Then he called me and explained that in spite of exactly equal appearance, there are differences on the electronics of the part, and that he had gotten exactly the right one from bosch with the correct code.

I thanked him for his professionalism, got the part, installed it and have lived happily with it.
