Turbo Letter Designation

I may have an opportuntity to pick up a used turbo from an Evolution relatively inexpensively. It is a 16G. Everywhere I look in this forum, I see people talking about the 16T. Please explain the difference between the two turbochargers.

16G into 1997 850 GLT LPT

*Will it work? Worth the effort/money?

Thanks,

Hilton

the letter is the series of the wheel design/speed .... and as said 16g is a TD05, unless its off a Srt4 then its a TD04-16g but its a reverse scroll so it won't work w/o a custom turbine houing

get a volvo TD05 center section and turbine housing and bolt the 16g comp side on it, return line might be a lil bit of a pain, nobody knows...yet

Guest Guest that can't create a da

Hey man, the T and G designationa are wheel descriptions regarding fin/blade heights, offsets and angles, some are all evenly spaced and some turbos, maybe all MHI or not, have tall-short-tall patterns to push the pump ! The 316 site above is a boat load of info to ingest but it's soo nice too ! Good luck, hope this helped a tad. peace out

Hilton, the 16G is a TD05 turbocharger. The place where it mates to our stock exhaust manifold would have to be machined. You would also have to make a custom turbo oil return line and oil feed line. If it has coolant lines, you would have to make a custom return and feed coolant/water lines for the turbo. Lastly, a new downpipe flange would need to be fitted along with possibly a new neck on the air intake depending on the size of your turbo.

The 16T is a TD04 turbocharger, the one out of a 1998 S70/C70/V70 T5 vehicle will fit directly into your car. Everything will bolt right up.
