850R Sleeper
So, I went out a little while ago to run to the store to pick up a few things. I have a remote starter on my 96 854 R and started my car from a distance. I got in and drove to the store no problem. I'm in the store for about fifteen minutes and while leaving to go to another store I decide to start it so it will be warm when I come out...nothing. I walk to my car, get in and try to start it again...nothing. I have a feeling that it might be the alternator, but I'm not sure. Something like this happened last year when my car was draining the battery. Come to find out, the place that installed my dual stage boost controller f'ed up and installed it incorrectly. I don't think it was that again though, because I had it fixed...so...any suggestions?

Seems like almost vertical.

shurgen
There is a stop on each side hinge that can be flipped to allow it to go vertical.Oh, thanks. That's good news as I won't have to remove the hood to get the engine out then.
850R Sleeper
Battery is just dead...I can get it jumped, but that's about it.And yes, there are two stops on either side of the hood that have small holes in them. If you open your hood, but not all the way, then push the clips down, the hood will open vertically. Volvo did this to make the entire engine bay more accessible while working on them. shurgen
Were your battery terminals clean and most importantly tight? I bet this is the problem
maiku
so it jumps fine, but you can't start it?whip out a volt meter and tell us your voltage ratingsone with battery by itself, car not started (for battery voltage)and one with battery started (for alternator voltage)
Guest AlvinL
Agree ^^^You should get around 14 volts or a little more, maybe a little less, with engine running. That means alternator is good and most likely you have a cell in the battery that suddenly died. It happens. A good battery should read over 12 volts, fully charged. Just what I've seen, if I remember correctly... :)
