Mike H.
Thinking of going two-tone on my wheels. Question is, what are the pros and cons of each process? Is one generally better than the others? What about durability? Thanks!
Aequitas_Veritas
paintPros-cheaper, can repair curb damage later if ever necessarycons-dosnt last as longanadizing-never heard of it done on a rimpowdercoatingPros-lasts a long time, thicker then paintcons-expensive, better looking, heat can weaken certain metals, cant touch up later if rim is curbedI have paint on my wheels now, but later im gonna powerdercoat the centers and leave the outside silver part painted, this is so I can have the nice finish and look of powdercoating, but if me or one of my family happens to curb a rim then only the outside rim will be damaged and can easily be repaired. If you paint make sure you primer and clear coat. Heres a shot of my rims all painted:
rodrigo
I think I am goign to paint my winter wheels, but if I was not in such a hurry, thyey would get powdercoated. Powdercoating may be good in the winter (depending on where you live) because of all the poop you drive through. Paint does have a better look on the lighter color, though (silver, etc)just my .02<edit> SoCal...nevermind about the winter comment

narxs70
i painted a set of wheels for the bike one time. it worked great. i did not think you could do two tone powdercoating. i.e. spokes black, center and lip silver. i may be wrong though.if you paint em you can change it all the time! weeee
JoshV70
Powdercoat them. Like Greg said, it lasts longer.
Mike H.
Thanks for all your inputs guys. But it looks like I will have to stick with the stock colors that the wheel manufacturer provides (silver and silver or black center with polished lip) as doing alterations to the wheel will void their warranty. They made the decision for me. No biggie. Now comes a new thread.... :D
