I posted here a while back with a couple of codes my XC was dishing out. At the time, I did not have too much time to look into the remedy for these codes and took the car to my trusty mechanic. After 4 visits (no charge), and the codes coming up again, I have had it, and before I go to the dealer with it (still under warranty) I figured I would try and fix it myself...now I have time (but the temprature is -freezing...yey me!)

So here are the codes the scan tool is pumping out:

P0422

P1174

What are they?

I am reasonably mechanically inclined, but I have no idea what these codes mean, and how to diagnose them, as codes can be from a variety of things in the same circuit, from what I have read here.

I have noticed no driveability issues with the car, but I dont wanna drive it too much if the light is on since, to me, it should not be on in the first place.

TIA for your helps!

So the effing light came on effing again while I was driving home from work. :) happy, I am!

So here's what the scanner says: P1174 again: manufacturer controlled fuel and air metering. Also, it took 63 miles for it to come on, so I reset the light again and see if ti takes the same mileage for it to turn on next time.

So, I think the next step is to go to Volvo and see if they car take care of the MAF/CAT under waranty.

what you guys think?

Well ok..since no one else will chime in.....your 1171 is possibly a vacuum leak look at the rubber elbow on the pass. side of the intake..the 1174 is also related to that as well....the 0422 is an evap code I believe and I think it's for the valve on the rad shroud but not sure just going off of memory. I highly doubt ANY of those codes are related to an 0/2 sensor...the 1171 and1174 are fuel trim codes and if you have no vacuum leaks you may possibly need and AMM but without reading values I cannot say? ;)

So, ok...we narrow it down to fuel trim.

Tomorrow I will check do a rubber elbow check.

AMM...i'm goign to look at the pinned section and see what that means.

Thanks for all your paitence(s)...but I hate the light coming on

is that AMM: Air Mass Meter, or Mass Airflow Sensor: MAF?

thank you. I'll be busy tomorrow looking at these elbows...

It doesn't matter how long it takes for the light to come back on. That just depends on what kind of driving you are doing following the reset. If you satisfy the ideal "drive cycle" twice, the computer can run all its diagnostics and decide whether to anger you with a CEL, or keep you happy. See drive cycle instructions in this post.

I agree, sounds like vacuum leak(s).
