3p141592654
The ignition switch in my 2000 V70 has always had stiff detents for the variousswitch positions, but I've noticed the detents are getting more and more aggressive as the years go by so that you really have to put some muscle to turn it, especiallyfrom acc to lock. To me, it just feels like it needs some lubrication, but I'm reluctuantto get the can of graphite lock spray and go wild in case I mess something up in there.Anyone else had this problem? Fisher
I might take some flaming for this, but personally I would not use graphite. I have never had any success with it. I would use Remoil gun cleaner spray or similar with suspended teflon. I use this stuff everywhere-even inside electronics-with no ill effects. It does not take much. A little goes a long way. starfish
The detents that you feel are in the electrical half of the ignition switch not the ignition lock. I would remove the switch and then turn the key to see if what your are feeling is the switch or a lock cylinder hanging up .

The 98-00 Igintion lock cylinder isn't the greatest either. Many have had to replace it.
Fisher
...I would remove the switch and then turn the key to see if what your are feeling is the switch or a lock cylinder hanging up .Why take it apart to see if it is the lock? Why not lubricate the lock first - before you take it apart - and if that does not fix it, then take it apart?
MrWinkey
Well because Starfish is professional as well as myself.... are you???......we see this stuff day in and day out ....I think what he suggested was the correct procedure Yes ...I agree you can try some type of lubricant in the lock cyl. but you have to remember there is an immobilizer system on the vehicle?
