Socal
Getting the rest of the dash off is relatively straightforward. The center console has to come out and so does the steering wheel. Neither of which are very difficult. So basically I've managed to get the whole dash console out, except now I need to remove the steering wheel to get it all the way out. How does one go about doing that?by the way here is one of the culprits of dash noise.
Socal
Ok, airbag is off. Anyone know the size of the large nut that holds the wheel itself on?
yangotang
Ok, airbag is off. Anyone know the size of the large nut that holds the wheel itself on?18mm. remember to disconnect your battery for 10 minutes. Woops, you already did that :P
Socal
Battery's been disconnected for the past 24hrs. Finally have the whole dash console out; all 4 plastic brackets were disintegrated. I'm working on coming up with a fix.
Socal
this is what I've come up with so far. Though I can't claim it's my own idea. Posted by Seamus on vptuning:I have fixed lots of these! I remove the dash and grind/ file all the broken mount points down flush with the rectangular nut. I make four metal straps 1” wide by about 5” long with a 8-10mm hole for the screw. I secure them over the nut and screw them to the defrost duct (hard plastic) with 2 #8 X ½ self tapping screws at each end. The screws are in sheer so the repair will probably last longer than the car. I place a felt pad (you can re-use the old one if you remove it carefully) between the strap and the car to reduce noise.
