"Project 6"

I don't wanna be the party pooper, but I recall a study a few years ago, in Car Audio Mag (IIRC) where they dynamatted the $h!t out of a Jetta - not the regular stuff, but the extreme badass stuff.

The car ended up no quieter... in fact it actually ended up a little louder at certain speeds.

Of course, I hope that's not the case with you. Either way, the squeaks will be gone, right?

Hi, Cracking project you have there, I used to do these sort of projects on motorbikes but never on a car,

Anyhow give this guy in the UK a email, he ha a 850 that is running over 500 at the wheels, Stu is a top guy and is currently making engines for some of us T5 guys here, Infact he is fitting my 19T hybrid next Wednesday, He will answer any of your questions,

all the best Gary,

Well... I've been looking into this and it seems to all comes down to frequency resonance (ok... someone shoot me if I'm full of BS). On a daily driver, there is improvement over stock when it comes to road and engine noise... which is what I'm after.

For competition and dynamatting the $h!t out of a Jetta (which probably costs more than that Jetta :P ) there is a distinct science.

This ripped from an SPL forum:

When you apply dampening to a vehicle you change its' resonant frequency. If you already have an enclosure that has been tweaked and tuned to acheive the highest SPL possible, and then apply dampening then you may see a loss. This is because the enclosure will then need retuned to the new frequency of the vehicle. Generally we see 2-3hz lower tuning as a result of dampening the entire vehicle. Overall this results in about 1-1.5db gain once you dampen the vehicle and retune. This is an incredible gain when you realize you had worked for months and already got every last drop out of the vehicle prior to dampening. Several of our Team members thought that they actually got a loss by dampening, but later found that they gained when they retuned to the new frequency.

This is why each time we start a new vehicle, we gut it first, then apply the dampening, and then build the enclosure. Why waste time tuning twice?

Hopefully they are right!

once you get that monster 500hp engine in there.. you'll need ear plugs anyways :D

Excellent work on your project...

was looking for a sumwhat similar project myself.. but more in a 4x4.. ((jeep)-less money)) that way i could still drive the volvo with no downtime.

Very nice! Looks like there is a track 850 that's faster than Flo's after all...though it looks like it could use some more weight red!

Would you believe he has never had it down the quarter mile  , but there will be at least 25 T5's at the Avon Park raceway here in the UK, running on the day, and Stu is going to take his down there :o , the LSD on it is so bloody viscious,

Will be a cracking day out, if it doesn't rain B) ,

Gary.

I smell Burgerball.

The car won't make it to Burgerball in time. Pat said I am allowed to come in a non-Volvo ride only if I park it way down the street. :(

I am going to bust my butt to make it to the Davis meet in May. This should be a fun summer!!!

Ok - this morning I went over the hill and kicked Pat outta bed :P to do the Atlantis deal and pick up (finally Kevin  ) my Erebuni sideskirts. Wasting no time and even bypassing a Starbucks, I rushed on home and threw them on the car to check them out. I gave everything a quick cleaning.

I have pics with and without the side skirts, but basically once the engine is in the 18" Atlantis rims should look something like.... this PS mockup???

Here is what is looks like today:

Atlantis2.jpg

The Erebuni side skirts gives an appearance of another 2" drop over the stock side skirts. Along with the new R bumper, this should look pretty hot! I'd need to get the CF lip with that too.

Another angle of with and without the side skirts:

Please no crap about I'm missing a window and a corner...

Back to the project.

when you get the sideskirts and bumper done in red, go ahead and color match the trim and handles, or black em out to go with the lights.

DONT FORGET TO DO THIS!

Planning on black... had my paint brush out today :monkey:

I'm in the throws of what to do regarding the color. Stay stock and just touch out here and there or for fresh re-paint. I think I'll just clean it up for the summer... next winter send her in for a fresh paint job.
