fatmansam
Greetings to all. I beg of your advice. I have owned a 1998 S70 T5 for the last 3 years.I LOVE MY CAR, but am starting to have problems.problem 1: I hear an odd sound like a wheel bearing going out. I am ready to replace but have never done on a fwd volvo. done lots of rwds. advice welcome.problem2: My volvo will occasionally( every 4 or 5 days) get an odd miss for about 2 secs. then run smooth.any ideas. I have 123000 miles but the timing belt was changed at 76000 by a volvo dealer.problem3: My lovely little volvo is losing it`s get up and go. I have slaughtered mustang gt`s with this car and now it seems that maybe turbo is odd. Also when I start it on a cold morning it sounds like a low sputtering coming out of the engine but no exhaust leak.common sense says to take it to a machanic, but i am no longer of weight in the cash dept. so I need to start doing things myself.if it helps any, I bought the car while living in denver co. where it never gets over 90. I had my wifes sisters bring it to california for me and they drove it for about 3 months. I also would like to hear of any performance mods. NO NITRO. with the mileage I have I don`t want to damage my baby.soon I will also ask for interior mods as my door panel skins are lifting. But the important stuff first.Thank you for your time and remember: never drive faster than your guardian angels can fly!!!
Mesoam
when is the last time you did a tune up?do you have a boost gauge?I would be willing to put $ on boost leaks and a need for other miscelaneous stage zero items (stage 0 includes the basics to get your car running right)
pfeener
1. You can get the wheel bearing replacement procedure from the maintenamce and repair section in this forum.2. Common problem. My 98 GLT has done this since it was new and now has 185K miles on it.3. No ideas on number 3.
Kibim
Prob 1 : been coveredProb 2 : Could be MAF related. They die easily on these cars. It's it's only occasional tho, it's hard to diagnose. If it gets more frequent, unplug the maf, and see if it's any smoother. If so, then you have a bad MAF. Prob 3 : Definatly a Stage 0 problem. You've got a lot of miles on that car, and i'm sure you still have the vac lines and boost hoses the car came with from new. (i know mine did before i replaced them myself. ) The old rubber wears out, and you loose boost and power by the bag-full. A boost gauge will be a good tool in diagnosing this. You should see +- 10psi boost and 20hg vac. If not, you have a leak, and it's time for some new plumbing.
