Asinine Posted January 2, 2006 Report Share Posted January 2, 2006 Ok, i'm about to go and fabricate my own XM install, but the kit i have only has the cigarette lighter power adapter thing.I'm gonna partially dis-assemble the area with my deck to add this fabrication, and was wondering if there was anything i could do about hardwiring the power. Can i just steal power by splicing into my (+) and (-) wires on the back of my HU, or in front of the cigarette lighter itself?Any help would be awesome, especially if it doesn't cause my car to burn down on account of an electrical fire! Just tap off the cig lighter power under the console. If the cig lighter cord has a special connector to your XM just cut the cig lighter end off and use that cord spliced to the cig lighter power wires under the console. You will need an in-line fuse holder to replace the one that is in the tip of the cig lighter socket plug. Use the same amperage. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It drops the voltage from 12v down to about 6v.You can go take the plug apart and solder wires onto the leads inside of it, then run the leads out the front of the plug, and tap into a 12v sounce hope this helps, pm me if you have any ?'s Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It looks as though i won't be able to splice the wires as simply as i thought.Here is a pic of the disassembled cig. power supply. I guess i'll have to solder the power to adapter itself (not too happy about that since the ghetto machine will be hidden in the dash)Here is a set-up of my ghetto fabricationUS beat CZ 2-1So my intention is to splice from the power to my HU and connect those wires to the cig lighter, then tape the snot out of it and tuck it away in behind.I've drilled a hole in the back of the 'space' to bring the antenna and power line right to the Roady XTThen i'll be done, and it will be my first true fabrication!
