S70 Fog Lights

Volvo Virgin

Recommended Posts

As the title states! I finally scored a swich to hook up my fog lights.I installed the switch in the blank to the right of the rear fog switch and the plug fit perfectly.Problem is that everything appears to be hooked up correctly, and I don't see how it could be wrong, but my switch isn't lighting up,the light in the gauge cluster isn't lighting up,and the fogs aren't lighting.Absolutely nothing.I checked the fuse and all connections and all looks fine.My car never had fogs on it from the factory,so I'm not sure if I'm missing something stupid.Any ideas?

That doesn't sound good.I had forgotten that you just did this to your car.Where can I get them the cheapest?

True. You can get a generic one, and it'll work just the same. As long as it's the "same" relay.

Was' up Adam. How you been man?

Does anyone know the specs on the relay and what the prong/contact configuration is?

by the way Adam, didn't you do the conversion so you could have your high beams on with you fogs?I see the parking light/fog dealio, but that's not what I want.

Yeah, I did it using the old method of cutting and splicing wires, but it wasn't too reliable so I switched back to stock. There's a new way using a modified relay, I think I might attempt that mod today. Oh, and the parking light/fog thing is the same thing.

Let me know how you make out with the mod today. If you can post or PM me pics of the 2 relays while you are working on them and have them out,it might help me to find the generic ones at Radio Shack.

Thanks,

Rob

as kevin said. you need relays! and alot of them! i dont know why they do it this way cause i seems so simple just to plug the fog lights in and hook up the switch... but you need like 3 relays.... you'll have to go the dealership and tell them what your trying to do... this is a bitch cause the people there are stupid!

they have kits to install fog lights on non-fog lights cars but the kit also inculdes the fog lights and they wont separate the kit at all. you'll have to find some one there who knows what there doing and get all the relays you need and find out where they go!

i tried to do the same thing you are trying to do and just gave up cause it was a PITA... and cost alot! so i just getto fabbed up my fog lights and hard wired them into my headlights. works just as well... and if you wanted to be gangster then you could wire them in to your parking lights so you could have parking lights and fogs w/ out headlights and then they would still be on with your headlinghts too!

Darn that was the longest post i think i ever did! good english right there too! haha

If I remember correctly, of the three relays that came with the kit (I bought it from the dealership for something like $300) the S70 only needs 1. I'll go look around and see if I can find the box that it came in, with the instructions.

Ok, it turns out I lied, you do need all three. Though, it seems I installed it using only two and it works just fine. I found the third one sitting in the garage, and the directions too. Looks like I skipped a step. Odd. I'll try and get pictures of all three today, if I could figure out where the directions are for the mod. I'm about to head out to a doctors appointment, but I'll be back later on to work on this.
