S70 Fog Lights

Volvo Virgin

Recommended Posts

Ok, it turns out I lied, you do need all three. Though, it seems I installed it using only two and it works just fine. I found the third one sitting in the garage, and the directions too. Looks like I skipped a step. Odd. I'll try and get pictures of all three today, if I could figure out where the directions are for the mod. I'm about to head out to a doctors appointment, but I'll be back later on to work on this.

much appreciated Adam.

If I remember correctly, of the three relays that came with the kit (I bought it from the dealership for something like $300) the S70 only needs 1. I'll go look around and see if I can find the box that it came in, with the instructions.

Adam, anything you can pass along with regards to how many relays, where they go and what they look like, would be greatly appreciated.

as kevin said. you need relays! and alot of them! i dont know why they do it this way cause i seems so simple just to plug the fog lights in and hook up the switch... but you need like 3 relays.... you'll have to go the dealership and tell them what your trying to do... this is a oh yeah! cause the people there are stupid!

they have kits to install fog lights on non-fog lights cars but the kit also inculdes the fog lights and they wont separate the kit at all. you'll have to find some one there who knows what there doing and get all the relays you need and find out where they go!

i tried to do the same thing you are trying to do and just gave up cause it was a PITA... and cost alot! so i just getto fabbed up my fog lights and hard wired them into my headlights. works just as well... and if you wanted to be gangster then you could wire them in to your parking lights so you could have parking lights and fogs w/ out headlights and then they would still be on with your headlinghts too!

Darn that was the longest post i think i ever did! good english right there too! haha

I dig long posts. :) Where did you tie the fog harness into the headlight harness?

I dig long posts.

^I hope Grant doesn't read that

i just asked him, he said he just piggybacked (spliced) the floglight line into the headlight harness. i'll try and force him to take pics.. :P

Cool deal!I was trying to think it thru in my head to figure how to make the fogs work with the fog switch, but spliced thru the headlights.I'll be interested to see what he did,and does his fog switch work or do the lites just come on with the headlights?

Oh yeah,I did just find these relays at Erie Volvo for $15.00 each plus shipping, but there are 3 different relays and I'm not sure which one,two or three I need. The guys there are not much help and trying to return electrical parts if they are the wrong ones is like trying to get tail off my old girlfriend(it might happen but it wouldn't be easy) ;)

haha, he has the foglight switch, but it's non functional, his fogs come on with his lights.

and hopefully when Adam get's back we'll have some more info.

Guess if I do the splice thing I'll be in the same non-functional switch group.Pretty cool since I just ordered and received a brand new switch. It sure does look nice tho. :P

You guys are all twisted.I wouldn't have it any other way tho.LOL!

Jake, get me some pics of your handy ghetto gangsta splicing when you get a chance. It's an option to consider depending on what else pans out.

Thanks,

I discovered what I did. When I installed them, one of the relays was already installed on my car. The one that goes in the fuse box and has the numbers 104 and 108 on them. I don't need it, so I can send it to you free of charge (if you pay shipping) if you haven't already ordered one. If you want, I can also scan in the Volvo installation instructions and put them into a PDF file for you. Also, if I'm reading this right, I should also have the relay marked 213 somewhere, I'll see if I can find that for you. The directions for installation are different for 1999- (mine) and -1998.
