MadeInJapan
NOW I'm STUMPED....see EVEN LATER below. As far as I can tell none of the plastic parts of the injectors are wet, but I'll do a double check...will do a visual WHILE the car is running. Thanks for the hint.Watching my COLTS right now...less than a minute left....to much going on for me to get more in depth right now....thanks again! Later: Oh Darn.... Can't believe a MISSED FIELD GOAL.... EVEN LATER:Okay so I got a flash light and a dental mirror. I was able to look all up and down the fuel rail at all of the O-ring connections....ran the engine for several minutes while I was doing this and NOTHING. Dust where you might expect it...no signs of any gas ever being anywhere....Now I'm stumped.

Replace regulator.Replace all o rings and gaskets.HTH

rp850
+1. This is gasoline! Find the problem ASAP. I'd change the fuel injector o rings and rubber fuel line return hose on principle alone at this point. Sorry if I'm on a soapbox but car fires are not fun. Good luck.Replace rubber hose at fuel rail!Check fuel press regulator-pull off vac hose and smell, gas? MadeInJapan
Is this possible even if no evidence of a leak is seen from the outside?
MadeInJapan
Strange things do happen to these cars...drove the car today...was going to go to the dealer to buy the O-rings for the injectors. This is a 25 mile drive or so...on the way I stopped by a friend's house. Wanted his opinion on the smell under the hood. There was absolutely no smell of gas. Instead, he immediately said, "antifreeze." I thought, what in the world's going on here. Anyway, long story short, my gas smell is completely gone. Instead, I have a small coolant leak now. Thought it was from the thermostat housing which was opened a few weeks ago for a T-stat replacement so I was beginning to re-tighten the housing screw when I noticed a trickle of coolant come out of the hose attached to the expansion tank to the housing...the green stuff puddled next to the housing screw....so I've either got a bad hose or clamp there. Anyway, wiped it up and drove home....no more gas smell...and I don't think the coolant smell is masking it. Very strange....but happier with this fix than the other one...Will keep an eye on the gas smell and it it raises it's ugly head again, it's off with the injectors and replacing the O-rings, and checking the gas line too.
