mikie
Today on the highway the coolant light turned on. After about 2 minutes off the highway the light turned off. I checked the level and it was full. Plus I just had a coolant flush not so long ago. I went back home (highway) light came on again - coolant still full. I searched a little bit on the forum and seems like it could be my thermostat. Could this be a possibility? And if so is it an easy DIY? Will coolant come flying out when removing the t-stat?Thanks

mikie
it's easy, every time i do it, i just drain the coolant and put it back in tho.So before intalling a new thermostat you drain all the coolant out? Where do you drain it from, any one of the hoses? About the problem though, if the thermostat is stuck open then the engine runs cold (thereforemy temp gauge should be lower then normal?) And if it's stuck closed then the coolant is boiling causing the engine to overheat but I would see this from the gauge no? Cause I'm not experiencing any changes in the temperature. Could the problem just be my sensor, but then again I'm not getting any codes? Thanks

the underlørd
Cool thanks Kevin! word man. what you can do is take some plastic tubing, and press if over the barbed fitting, and then turn the fitting itself, just minimalizes spillage..ps - be sure and crack the overflow tank first... :)
mikie
ps - be sure and crack the overflow tank first... LOL... Sorry but your gonna need to explain that one. What's the overflow tank and how do I crack it? I'm figuring it's the reservoir were you would feel the coolant in, and by cracking it do you just opening the lid to allow air? Thanks

Is there anything else that causes the coolant light to go on expect when low on fluid? So when the t-stat is stuck open (majority of the time when it fails), how do people know? The car takes longer to warm up???? I would think that there would be a sensor for the flow or temp of the coolant that can notice a faulty t-sat. Anyway since I bought the part and it's only $30 I will still install it.Thanks
