Grille Removal

Does anyone know how to remove the grille in a '99 S80? If I recall correctly, I heard that a special procedure was needed and that this is not as easily done as, for instance, in the 850 or S70. All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am not sure if this belongs in Cosmetic or Maintenence. Moderators - please place this thread where it belongs.

If you post a picture of the back side of the grille, it would be easier to tell you how to remove it.

I am not familiar with how it looks, and the volvo parts program isn't being a lot of help.

I will surely try to post a picture of the back side. However, the back is only accessible from deep within the engine compartment and I don't know how to take a photograph of it as it is very hard to access with very little room. I think I read somewhere that the bumper needs to be taken off to remove the grille...

bro, its six clips you gotta pull down on with a screw driver. it won't take too long.

You mean through the grille's slits from the outside? It seems that some of these clips are hard to reach but you may be right. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

just pop out the clips on top and ur set, you can bend that bumper a little bit so u wont have to take the whole thing off

Do I still have to remove the casing as seen in the above instructions, or can I just loosen a few screws and reach it from the engine compartment?

Edit: Perhaps it would be easier to just carefully spray the grille black while it is still in place and attached.

Overspray will PWN JOO!!!

That is what I am worried about. I tried, with no luck, and could not reach the top clips with a screw driver. The bottom should have 4 clips yet 2 of them are broken on the right side so that makes my job easier. However, removal of the entire bumper seems like a difficult task so I am probably going to try to place a cardboard behind the grille to protect the radiator fans.

Worst comes to worst, it doesn't look that hard. It's just alot of unscrewing things

I already tried unscrewing the thin metal bar that runs along front of the hood. Now I just need to follow the instructions and attempt to remove the lower casing to access the remaining clips. Doing it with a screwdriver while the grille is attached is a pain in the @$$.
