Polybushes For A Arms..

Hello

I have gone through replacing tie-rod ends and various parts of the suspension and when I went for a re-alignment the tire guy said to pop some polybushes into the A arms.

Seems not too difficult if I can drop the A-arms, but how easy is is to press new polybushes in?

I understand rubbers bushes need a vice or hydraulic press but are polybushes easier? I don't want to get stuck half way through.

Anyone done these before, tips, recommendations?

Thanks

Matt

Matt, I've replaced control arm bushings last year and I used a manual hydraulic press. I'd say a vise can be used as well. The way I did it on hydraulic press:

I made a fitting out of a pipe to fit the control arm ear so that when you press the bushing out, the bushing comes out into the pipe. The pipe fitting I made is a little longer and just wider than the bushing istself.

I made another fitting to go on the other side of the arm's ear where the fitting must be slightly smaller than the inside of the arm's ear. This fitting was use to press on the bushing.

So, I made two pipe fittings to go on each end of the control arm ear. When you have both fittings made, before pressing the bushings out by a vise or hydraulic press, measure precisely how much the old bushings sticking out of the arm's ear. Afterwards, using the fittings press new bushings in to the same measurements. You won't be able to see how far you would be pressing in because of fittings, so do it slowly and remove fittings from time to time to see how far the bushings went in.

To get this job done I had to have: grinder, hacksaw, press and bunch of diffirent sizes/types cylinder shape junk pieces.

Good luck.
