really sucks you didn't get the far superior and cheaper ones from Slater. Ah well, live and learn.

Yup, my P2 links will be out in a few weeks. And the design of the Evolve's are comical compared to the QBM P2 links. Are they better than stock, for sure!

I'm waiting for them! I don't want to put my springs on, because I know your new links will be ready days after I put the springs on. Hate to do more work than I have to. :P

trust me guys...

slater's are BEEFY

Evolve's rods are round, like my original v1 links. That was 4 revisions ago. I learned that the round stock is a bad idea - there is nothing to hold onto to get a good enough grip to get the rod end jam nuts as tight as they should be. Good to see the mighty Evolve using a design that I abandoned long ago. They should know better.

Also, there is a reason my rods are steel. They are much stronger - I paid a lot of money to have my end links stress tested by a metalurgical stress testing labratory to make sure they could stand up to any punishment possible. I would not trust aluminum rods for this reason, especially in lower temperatures. Running upgraded sway bars puts even more stress on the end links. Also, an aluminum rod will experience galvanic corrosion in time - the two dissimilar metals will react (steel rod ends and aluminum rods) and the threads as well as the rod end jam nut mating surfaces will eventually corrode and weaken.

I'm not bashing - any upgraded link is better than stock. It's just that there's a hell of a lot more thought, testing, and R&D that goes into making performance products than people think. I don't make anything that I don't stand behind 110%.

sheesh. there are few enough parts for the S80 as it is. this is better than stock and is available NOW.

slater, if you expect to sell more than 5; you should advertise better. getting rid of the sockmonkey sig picture has done a lot for your credibility as well. not that i'm bashing mind you; i like to buy good parts if i know about them. i don't spend every living minute reading boards. in fact they are quickly becoming the last place i look for information for obvious reasons.

Evolve doesn't even list the links on their website anymore. How's that for available NOW? I wonder why they removed them? Hmmm....

And about selling more than 5...you have no clue. I've sold hundreds of kits. In fact, every time I make a new batch thinking "maybe these will last me a while", they've sold out within a few weeks. I can't keep them in stock fast enough.

If you think my Murdoch A-Team picture had anything to do with my creditbility then you're not very smart. Remember when everyone had an A-Team picture in their sig? Were they all non-credible all the sudden too? It was all in fun. Lighten up. You're avatar doesn't exactly portray a Mensa society member if you know what I mean.

My products and my customer service speaks for itself and my credibility. Maybe some owners who have my link kits will chime in here and say what they think about them or my credibility.

Again dude, I am not bashing you for wanting to enhance the performance of your S80. I am sorry if you took it as a personal attack. Evolve has a lot of great products and you are right they came out with their links before me. I could have thrown together a hack kit like they did - I have been selling the P1 kits for a long time now and the P2 kits are just a variation so it would have been trivial for me to do it. But I took my time and did my homework because I stand behind everything I sell.

I'll tell you what. When my kit is ready to ship in a few weeks, I will give you a $100 trade-in credit to upgrade your Evolve kit for a QBM kit. What other company will offer you that? I want you to have the best, SAFEST kit available (especially on a heavy car like the S80 where the links are under more load), and the fact that they completely pulled the kit from the market should be setting off red flashing lights in your head.

Thanks for the great link Johann. Nice to see they pulled the poor design and are working on something better. Rod ends coming loose...hmmm no one saw that one coming. I like the nuts as spacers personally. Nothing like a nice square surface for the rod end to be able to move through the required angles. And dirt cheap to compared to a properly engineered (i.e. "sock puppet") misalignment taper and spacer setup:

3.jpg

Also, the rod ends they are using with the zerk fitting in the main body are considerably weaker than the same identical rod end without. The rod end body with a grease fitting will shear apart right at the fitting at approximately HALF the load of an identical rod end without a grease fitting! I can provide load test data if you want. You should NOT use a greseable rod end on an application that experiences almost all radial loads (i.e. up and down forces on a perpendicular bearing). I am shocked that they used them - especially when on top of the radial loads the rod end is experiecing binding due to the nuts-as-spacers. That is a failure waiting to happen because it is putting tremendous pressure on the rod body - you know, the same part of the rod body where it's the weakest due to the zerk fitting. In fact, this is why NHRA rules dictate that all rod ends must have safety washers in the event of rod end failure. Weak rod ends can and do fail. My misalignment tapers are safety washers - a few nuts stacked up are not.

The noise and vibration people are hearing (and Evolve themselves reported) are the rod ends binding and "pounding out". This means the rod bearing bearing is pounding out the inner race of the rod end body itself - the same thing that happens on the stock end links. This is a characteristic of a poor quality rod end or an incorrect rod end for the application. I take great pride in my rod ends. They are the best rod ends available, are the correct rod end for the application, are true race quality, and extremely expensive. I could have used a much cheaper rod end and made a lot more profit. But, after all, my reputation is on the line. Sock puppet sig picture and all.
