Msd Ignition

I quote from the MSD ignition kit package:

"The 6BTM is designed for the turbo or supercharged engine to allow the driver to retard the ignition timing based on the amount of boost being produced. The retard function can be adjusted from 0 - 3 degrees of retard per pound of boost with the maximum of 15 degrees retard. The 6BTM also features an adjustable rev limiter for over-rev protection."

I would call MSD for further information if your still curious. PEACE!

I would definately call MSD before using that one. It has been my experience that when you give the person the ability to advance or retard the timing, they will advance and advance and advance and the BOOM!

I made a couple calls today to some local hardcore racer types. They said that the 6AL should also work. As long as you dont put a chip in it for the rev limiter it would be fine. Its once you cut the wires and insert a chip that it moniters the cyl. So it would be like 6A excapet it costs a bit more.

On a happy note, one of them is giving me a new 6A at no charge. No I just need to get the coil to go with it.

One of the guys I talked to said that he would be a little concerned with the factory distributor cap. In most cases he says that you have to have the HEI style cap to keep the MSD from jumping points on the cap.

In the short time you've had yours on, have you seen any problems like this? He also mentioned opening the gap on the plugs to allow the spark to cover a larger area now that it has more power.

I'm using the stock Bosch coil with a somewhat new cap and rotor that is OEM. There has been no problems what-so-ever.

MSD recommended using copper plugs instead of iridium which I was using before the installation. I don't know about the other systems, but the 6A works well with a lot of applications. I MIGHT upgrade to a MSD Blaster 2 coil, but it seems to run just fine with the stock Bosch.

All I can say is to try it and see what happens, and if you need to upgrade the coil or cap, then just do it.

PEACE!

Isnt the blaster 2 coil a carberated version coil? Looks like about a "5-"6 cyl with a nipple on the end? If I am not mistaken that is for use with HEI systems on carberated cars. I wouldnt mess with it. Just use the MSD upgraded coil that looks similar to the factory one on the car. Now I just need to track down the part# for the MSD coil.
