Ghost Shadow
I tried to search and came up with nothing that matches what problem i have.So here it is guys1995 850 GLT N/A 120kDrove home tonight in it, shut car off and then could not get it started again. No dash light (christmas lights), no start, check fuses and they seem ok for checing at 9:30pm in the dark with a flashlight.Cranked the car and nothing, jumped it and nothing(thought maybe dead cell?).Is there a fuse that controlls the dash lights in pos 3.We have only 1 fuse box right in these cars? under the hood. KS_R
uhh your battery is probably completly dead. TIME FOR A NEW ONE. but that is what i would guess. it doesn't have enough juice to crank over, and it can't power all the lights. when did you last get a new battery? RAzOR
You said you cranked it. Does that mean it cranks? Or the starter won't even go? Which is it?

It's not fair to tell someone to get a new battery or it's a dead battery especially when they said it cranks but doesn't start. Wouldn't it be better to ask what the voltage is? They were asking about fuses and since I'm no 850 Volvo expert I don't know the answer. There are relays, switches, and modules that could cause this problem. Gearshift adjustment and a dozen other possibilities which must be check until you can isolate the problem. Cheers, GTM2U

Sometimes you can try and jump a battery and it still won't start a car, its just dead. This happened with my 525, it would crank for a second but wouldn't start. Tried to jump it and still wouldn't start. We threw a battery in from another car and it started just fine. No reason to get uppity.

Ghost Shadow
Maybe we should FAQ this, there are relays under the hood next to the fuse box that occasionally goes bad. There are three relays under the hood that are normal SPDT relays. Changed all three of them and the car starts normally. Thanks for the goose chase guys Took only 10 minutes to find that problem.thankssteve
Guest AlvinL
Good one and thanks for letting us know. So it's not the ignition switch... It's will be pinned.
