MWvolvo850
Suspension upgradeI have a Volvo 850 glt and would like to tighten up the stock suspension. My question is where should I begin? Shocks/Struts and a sway bar is what i'm initially going to start with…. I think. This Volvo is my daily driver and I like to drive and corer fast (sometimes) please advise. Thanks
jross
The sways will make the biggest difference, followed by the struts/shocks (maybe you should think about springs too or replacing all three with KWs). Sounds like you're right on track!

MWvolvo850
Yea - bummer on the IPD swaybar being on back order until July. When I replace the shocks/struts - will I need to replace the shock/strut mounts?
V Tuning 850
Some people suggest you do, but you don't have to, but it is a good idea, just to upgrade everything.

swimboig83
when the strut bearing squeak does it sound like a chirp from the strut tower? thats what i am getting from the drivers side strut when i go over bumps or barke quick.
shurgen
Maybe you don't have to replace the sway bar if bushings are not vulcanized to the bar. On older cars they are not. If you can, remove one of your wheels and take a look if bushing is vulcanized to the bar. I just replaced bushings on my 93 850GLT that i got for $10/pair from fcpgroton. That way you won't have to wait on ipd or spend money on the sway bar at all.
jross
That way you won't have to wait on ipd or spend money on the sway bar at all.The iPd bars are alot bigger (diameter) than stockers, so the car handles better.
mAydAy
I've got a 1996 850R with Bilsteins, Spax springs and iPD bars. The bars made a huge difference. Something else not too often thought about around here that probably made the biggest difference of it all -- cranking up the wheels to maximum negative camber. Grip tripled from that, allowing everything to be used more efficiently. 850's camber is usually wonky, and eats outter tire edges, this will fix that and increase grip, alot.-Andy
